  • Huge injectionof bute to the neck last night. Severe laminitis is suspected but an xray is required at 1pm today. If its at a 14% or more incline in the hoof shes not savable.

  • Unfortunately the mad crazy horse that is Maddy has had to be put to sleep tonight.

To say I’m gutted is an understatement. My partner however is going to be absolutely destroyed by this, shes had her 14 years. Im not with her cos i have the boy. I can only imagine how much thats going to hurt her with all the self blame shes going to have.

Im not religious, but i actually prayed to god last night. He didn’t listen.

    For actual fucks sake

On the only plus side, she is no longer in any pain.

  • Yeah for the best if she was suffering.
    Still thats an absolute fucker.

    Sorry.
Just let the grief happen naturally, it will be rough but yourself and the mrs will get past it.
  • Sorry Minky, awful stuff.
  • Thanks chaps. Now if anyone can tell me how tge fuck im supposed to help Amy get through it cos i have no idea

    Ah bollocks. Awful.

    :(

Poor old horsey.   Sorry to hear that.

There's a YT channel of a cow foot trimmer who goes around farms in Scotland sorting out cattle. I know the anatomy is very different but hooves seem to be a tricky thing. Some of the things he has to deal with look pretty horrific and painful looking.

  • Yeah hoof issues are agony for the horses. Turns out she had a laminitis in several, which was missed by 2 previous vets that thought it was a leg strain. It was missed by 2 farriers (hoof specialists) who were called out and paid plus a tip on 4 different occasions.

Typically the only good professional vet was unfortunately the one that had to kill her. If we had her out first the horse might still br alive. Makes my anger issue raise its ugly head and i could actually loose my temper badly with some of these previous “professionals”

That wont help the situation so obviously im biting my tongue in front of Amy.

  • At least Mini Minky is too young to be properly upset. Sad news, sounds like she was well loved and looked after though.

  • The Clayton lump ordeal is still ongoing.

When I took him in Monday they sent a sample off to see if he had a resistant infection. Got the results and that isnt the case.
I have been cleaning his wound twice a day and there hasn't been any cheese for 3 days now so looks like it just needed longer.

He is going on another 10 days of antibiotics then a checkup. Hopefully we can dodge surgery unless a new cyst forms later.

Then the fun begins claiming off the insurance.
  • Fingers crossed mate.

  • Yeha. Hopefully past the worst of it now.

@Minky How is the mrs today?
  • Some better news.

Since sonny passed, there's been a real kinda empty feeling in the house. Tony's been extremely clingy and vocal, I think he's constantly looking for him, or maybe became much more territorial in his absence. I've been missing him terribly recently, the warm weather has me sitting out the back door a lot, always wishing he'd bound out from the kitchen looking for some play time.
But I'll be moving on soon. Me and shona need our own space, and I worry how my mum will be without us. You'll maybe remember a wee while back, I posted my mum's hairdressers bulldog, what a cracker. The lassie also has a yorkie and a frenchie, who've had a litter, and have been kind enough to give one to my mum!

No pics yet, they're still a wee pile of beans, but in September, my mum will have a wee companion to call her own. I'm worried slightly how Toby will react, he'll probably not come home for a couple days, but I'm sure he'll be fine once he asserts dominance, quite rightly.

    So, yay!

  • Great stuff Gav.
Pets leave a massive hole when they are gone so glad your mum will have some company once you move on yourself.

I presume horses fret over the death of another?

  • Oh fucking hell yes. The stress of loosing a companion horse can kill the other remaining horse
    PSN - minkymu
  • Thats why if a horse drops dead in the field with another companion (usually overnight) then it messes the surving horse up badly. Hence Maddy was put to sleep in the field and Monty remained stabled.

Horses that are turned out overnight shoukd always have other horses with them as they take turns sleeping, one stands guard the other lies down. This is to prevent badger attacks as they go straight for the gut.

  • @Minky I've gone on a deep dive of an old external HD as I promised some pics of Angel the American Bulldog (RIP).  Maybe some action shots will cheer you up:

Brams couldn't even walk down stairs properly at this point, she could have flipped him into the air and swallowed him whole.  Was an epic faux battle.
  • OMG BABY BRAMBLE!

  • Ah Moot lovely pictures. Baby Brams is adorable.

What a lovely dog Angel is. Fantastic breed of dogs American Bullies. I will always have one if Harley ever pops off, which i hope is not for many years yet.

Thank you they have cheered me up.

I didn't see the news about Sonny gav. I'm so sorry to hear that, he was an absolute don and I am genuinely glad I got to meet him when I was over there.
  • All good, man. Thanks <3
