Fictional animals on a world that is not the same as ours, completely different Eco system and environment...and he knows how they'd evolve? Excellent.

Oh god don't defend Avatar and it's ludicrous creatures with random pointless limbs

He compared predators to prey and considered environments as presented in the movie. Then he compared them to similar in our world. Obviously he wasnt saying it was fact but it was presented with scientific grounding.

MattyJ wrote:I'm just saying you have no idea what te evolutionary history of those creatures is, the limbs you say are pointless may have only recently become so and haven't evolved out. I'm sure there are many creatures on earth that have 'pointless' parts to them. Besides its a bloody fictional world that Packham or anyone else has no idea of what the fuck happened on it.

Um, it's a world that looks very similar to ours, with remarkably similar vegetation and a remarkably similar hominid which, with similar intelligence to humans is the dominant species on the planet. Â Suggesting that the animal evolution would not be wildly different to our own is perfectly sound, and not remotely redundant. Â But it's a shit film in every single aspect, so even animal evolution won't help.MattyJ wrote:Comparing it to our world is redundant. Anyways, not the thread for it.

He strikes me as that sort of person, it does seem like he does TV because it is an easy way to make big money. He is hardly showbiz, kind of the anti Mulhern.Packham was moody but civil, with the natural talent of the three to turn it on for the camera.
He was a bit of hero of mine when I was growing up.Mod74 wrote:
