It doesn't have the wet effects some of the mods had for the Java version, yet, but this runs much better with DLSS and I can always hit 60fps. It's an absolute joy.
Glass reflections are amazing. They've even done refraction right. I built a beach house with a glass wall (because Moonlight on sea is too pretty) and I was stood outside and noticed the there was some internal reflection as you looked up through the line of glass blocks. I put a camp fire on the beach outside and and you had all this Moonlight reflecting about and the firelight from the glow of the sand and it was all a bit jaw dropping. It's genuinely amazing stuff.
It really is. I've not made anything as I've never played before but the graphical advance from this is extraordinary.
Control showed RTX off in a more subdued manner (bar the insane reflections), Metro Exodus was a powerhouse of lighting, Quake 2 showed how it can be used to severely jazz up an old game but Minecraft is the absolute showcase. Its stunning, all the little details.

Try it on survival. I know you say it's not your thing but survival is great with the day/night cycle on. Find some beach in the middle of nowhere in one of the RTX levels. You have to get some kind of shelter up before sundown (when the baddies come out) by chopping down trees etc. The RTX bit actually affects gameplay because at first you don't have a torch or anything so if you start mining with the Sun behind you, you can see better as you burrow down and can dig further. The amount of atmosphere RTX brings makes it a much more absorbing game.
If you haven't played much Minecraft before try exploring some cave systems looking for resources, it can proper shit you up. Good accurate indirect lighting probably makes it way more atmospheric.
I was wandering about when it got dark so I found a village nearby and entered a building because I'm not that equiped for combat at night. I think the moon must've gone behind a cloud because it was really dark. Not much light inside the room and I couldn't make anything out so I placed a random torch on a dark surface, which is the equivalent to finding a light switch in Minecraft. To suddenly find myself in such a small and convincingly lit room was all kinds of great. I know the pic isn't that beautiful but to me it was what makes Minecraft RTX so atmospheric. The lighting is so convincing it's hard to describe what a difference it makes to the atmosphere of the game. It made Minecraft feel like Witcher 3.
Yeah the mining is as atmospheric as you'd imagine. Torch placement becomes a thing and your mining changes accordingly. You can mine with fewer torches if you break blocks that cast shadow, so your ceilings tend to be higher. One block removed can cast way more light on a mined space.
Got it for my Boy on PS4. Had to create an MS account, so I did, child account linked to my one, no worries. But he can’t play online, some Realms mode or something?
Been going round in circles on the Xbox.com site, keeps taking me to support FAQs page which links back to itself on the various options.
Basically, there are 2 options for playing online. Realms is where Microsoft host the world, and it's always active. This costs money for whoever owns the Realm. This is accessed from the main menu by pressing on Play, and under the first tab that comes up, Worlds. You will see Realms listed at the top, and Worlds below, which is anything your boy creates on the PS4.
If your boy is wanting to invite someone to his world, you select the Friends tab, and add friend. Once added they will show up below when they are online, and they can invite to/join each others worlds. This is free, but whoever owns the world has to be online to play on it. I suspect this is the one you are wanting to do.
Ok cheers I’ll check the options. There was a message to say his account is restricted I think which is what I was trying to resolve on Xbox.com/settings but haven’t managed to yet.
