Disney probably don't have much confidence in their own ability to do that. A new Star Wars game might be nice, but it's not a brand that automatically sells games any more. The Old Republic makes a great case for licensing the name and letting other people risk their money.MattyJ wrote:But why can them, rather than use the name as it carries weight? Put a strong team together, put out a good game or two under the LucasArts name and enjoy the prestige. A 'LucasArts back on form!' Run of headlines would be great press.
The games had acquired a reputation of not being very good. Disney know how to milk a franchise in almost every other medium, that's why they bought the brand, not to make games.Sasukekun wrote:Sorry, but if that were the case there's no way that Disney would have shelled out 4.05 billion for Lucasarts and Lucasfilm. What ip did they have? Indy and Star Wars? I doubt Indy commanded much of that total. So, if Disney don't think that the Star Wars name carries much any more, why shell out all that dough?
