Not really. Armour upgrades unlocked by experience points came in with Reach, but the unlocks were only cosmetic. Halo 4 allowed you to unlock new starting abilities and weapons and introduced ordnance so if you're doing well in a game you get rewarded with a weapon drop.

Oh yeah, I knew that, I was talking about his strange mention of some Plaza something or other. What is this he speaks of, those 3 games that Ninty gave at one point that includes a shmup apparently? And were they proper game releases? It's 3DS anyway so may not count depending on trying to come to a general agreement on formats to be included.

I missed this before, and I don't have much experience with CoD online, but my understanding is quite the opposite. CoD's reliance on K/D as a measure of skill means that the team's performance comes second to an individual performance in a game. Plus, with non-ordnance based Halo matches, map control and keeping on top of power weapon spawns is key and impossible to do without teamwork.

But surely, if they're still keeping the old fans, then that alludes to a fairly high standard of QA.
I mean, look at the state of Pro Evolution now.

So yes, I will at least correlate popularity with at least some level of critically acclaimed quality.

Ah right, getting confused. So Bungie made a turn towards CoDification, but 343 dragged Halo down the road. Shame.

I agree with no 3DS and Vita. Obviously the WiiU is out because it hasn't been released yet.

These are the kinds of arguments I'm happier to read.
It's better than simply telling me that I can't choose something, 'because it's dumb'.

But at least consider this...

Due the combination of the game's popularity, qualitative properties, artistic direction, and game design, the game is one of the most sociable console games ever made.

That's my argument for it.

I'm an anti-social, FPS hating badger, but I can respect what CoD is doing for gaming at large.

I was just trying to summarise the whole 'you can only choose the games you like!!! Grr!!' thing levelled against my list.

Again, I'm choosing the games that have stood out for me...

Like I'm not a Guitar Hero / Rockband fan, but there was a time when everyone was playing that shit, and it re-introduced gaming peripherals to the generation that we all thought would have consigned them to dust...

A side note... Activision did really fucking well in the last generation...

Based on the number of Halo fans here compared to anything else, as well as fringe Halo votes I would be very suprised if the forum favorite isn't Halo 3.

I presume we are doing a weighted list the same as GOTY?

Final answer Elf. I love everything on that list. I opted not to incude Scene It because it's not a typical videogame, more of a quiz on a console with the added joy of buzzers (and the 'host' voiceover almost ruins the whole thing). Better than Buzz though, I thought, which I also enjoyed last gen.

I'm happy to bow to the will of KRS though; the list looks pretty good as a new IP top five too.
