lel, I was thinking during that scene "I'm going to be seeing this as a gif for the rest of my life aren't I?
I was kinda enjoying this episode. That creepy sleazy Mulholland Drive vibe works, the camerawork and locations are gorgeous, the audio is great, the plot is interesting. I was starting to think "fuck the haters. I'm enjoying this." Then there was a scene that reminded me of something in srs1 and it all came crashing down. It's not as good, it's not even close, but I'm gonna stick with it as it's still one of the best things on.
Someone wrote a piece this week saying that forgetting about season 1 was the best way to enjoy it, I'll go with that. It's far from awful, definitely better than network quality, it's just that you can see the big moments not landing.
Pizzolatto owns it, so HBO didn't have an alternative, but it replacing the creative team along with the actors each season would have been a more exciting option. Very few people could knock out a great follow up script in that length of time.
Vaughan ruins it, he's just the most unconvincing bad guy. The script is fairly ropey and all over the place too, but I suppose I'll watch till the end.
There are only 8 episodes in this? Wife pulled the plug yesterday when the reporters were chasing John Carter towards the camera, so I'll be watching solo from here on in ('I can handle shit TV, you know I love my shit TV. But I can't handle how shit this is when it's supposed to be good' - there's a good point in there).
Should've listened to Brooks early on and added booze to every episode. I was smashed for episode 3, which is probably the worst one so far, and I enjoyed it immensely.
Fell asleep to episode 3 last night. It's like watching every gritty crime drama from the last twenty years all at once. With Vince Vaughn in it. And I keep expecting Farrell to whimper "I killed a little boy!" every time he's on screen. It's that face on him.
Pants.
Was slipping behind with this, finally got round to finishing episode 4. Just gonna take the rough with the smooth - there's a lot of unintentional humour/facepalm dialogue/downright dodginess in it, but enough flourishes of excellence to keep me watching. That shootout was pretty damn good.
Currently finding the 16 Blocks guru guy ever so amusing.
I'm looking forward to it being over. It's a huge failure - lousy acting, laughable scripting and a story which makes no sense at all. I think I'm only watching for some of the music at this point. I laugh every time Vaughan comes on the screen.
Even the music isn't a patch on season one though, overall. The soundtrack is finally released next month, but the link doesn't help. If they don't include Casey's Last Ride I'm fully done with the show.
I feel a bit sorry for VV. Not to the point where I don't find his lines amusing, but would McCanaughey be able to deliver the one about hunger/eating without an instacringe?
