Kudos to Tom Cruise, on Graham Norton show promoting his new movie The Mummy. Explained how a shot shown in the trailers involving a plane wasn't cgi. They used an actual plane, flew up high, did a parabolic curve maneuver with plane which generated 30 sec of zero g and did the shot. They did 60 takes of that shot. That takes guts.

which were all over the plane afterwards :D

I haven't seen the interview in question, but I don't believe for a second that they shot 60 takes of that.

I watched the trailer where they did one shot and it looked great, but the setup and cost for 60 shots would've been phenomenal. Whole camera crew stunt team and two lead actors playing the odds that many times? The studios legal team would've shit a brick.

Hacksaw Ridge not what I was expecting. Simple story. The stuff at home was better than when they went to war. Amazing real life accomplishment and emotional use of some of the real people at the end gave it that Band of Brothers authenticity and made up for a couple of OTT scenes.
  • Also another Wonder Woman plus - no post or intra credit bollocks
  • I definitely think she'll be the star of DC universe as Robert Downey Jr is the star of the Marvel universe. The movie is getting alot of praise. Then again seeing how low the bar was set by BvS and Suicide Squad....

IMDB said there was a post credit scene but I see that's since been removed.
  • The scene is in the cinema as the staff kick off with you for not leaving.
  • DC have said they aren't going down the Marvel route of post credit scenes. They obviously think in movie emails are better.
  • Inception dream sequences too.

They are because post credits scenes are utter utter shit.

Yup, I just scarper now, regardless. Go me.

  • Unless I have somewhere to be I always stay for the credits, regardless of the film.
  • Aye, me too. Always have, I like reading them.
  • Also just been to see Wonder Woman.

I thought it was...  OK.  It's easily the best of the current wave of DC movies, but that's decidedly faint praise.  Gadot is good in the role, though she isn't really given very much to do and Chris Pine does a great job of playing Captain Kirk undercover as Steve Trevor.  (To the point that you could make the whole film into one of those Star Trek movies where they inadvertently get sent back in time...)

Unlike BatSoup there is at least a fairly coherent plot (albeit with a few pointless detours), and DC have finally realised that people quite like some levity in their superhero movies.

(I shall confine most of my moaning to the spoilers...)
    Spoiler:
Still, like I said, it's better than the other DC movies (though, for my money, not even close to the Saturday Matinee feel of Marvel's output). My kids - teen girls, and thus theoretically a target audience - thought it was "alright" and "better than expected", but were hardly set alight by it.

It's had really good reviews, so I wonder if I'm in a minority, but it feels like this won't be remembered anywhere near as fondly once the dust settles on the current superhero era...

It's more about trying to not get stuck in the car park exodus.

  • Hard Target on ITV4 - has dated unbelievably badly and is still utterly amazing, carried by the most incredibly VanDammit hairdo of his entire career.

  • Man that was a favourite as a lad. Yeah I imagine it has aged pretty badly though.
  • Early Baby Driver reviews are very positive indeed.

I called it. Fuck the doubters. Edgar is the man.
  • Boss Baby sequel?

    I will cut you.
  • Baby driver has a really good trailer.
  • Baby driver has a really good trailer.

    Which one? The tequila one?
  • I think just the standard one that I first saw in the cinema ages ago. After I got into the film I decided not to watch any more! If the job of the trailer is to get me hooked, by definition it's really good.

Watched Trainspotting 2, thought it was really great, a worthy sequel. Its nostalgia wasn't so much for the film but that moment in time when it came out and where my life was at that moment. It was great to see the characters again and see that for some 20 years can change everything but for others nothing changes. The only small misstep maybe was the choose life speech, which was a bit of a fudge.
  • Finished T2 last night too. Pretty much echo the above. They overplayed the sentiment for the first film a bit too much, but it never annoyed me. I do think it's a shame they couldn't just make 'Porno', I really enjoyed that book and thought it would've been a great follow up. Boyle acknowledged that they looked into it but it wasn't a goer.

Wonder Woman then. Probably the best recent of the DC stuff which is why it's probably getting good reviews. It's basically Captain America all over again. Not bad but seen it all before.
