I didn't like nocturnal animals. There was something very nasty about it, and not just in the obvious way.
  • You're not alone in that thinking.
  • Me too.
The premise was like fantasy sado misery porn.

  • I liked it, saw it on a plane then had to watch it again at home, don't think I really took it in on first viewing. It's a bleak film though with no real likeable characters. The ending annoyed me on first view but I enjoyed second time round.
  • +1 for the Goober/Crayon/Panty party. I found Nocturnal Animals deeply unpleasant and pointless. Kept expecting more … but nope.
  • I'm not sure what the point of it was but when I was talking to my mate about it I kind of realised that the thing that pissed me off was actually it's best bit.
    Spoiler:

    That's my take anyway.
  • I get where you’re coming from, but that just wasn’t enough for me.

I was left unfulfilled – the film built tension then didn’t resolve it into anything.

    Spoiler:
  • I thought the bleak, nasty taste it leaves is in keeping with the process of revenge. As you say, nothing is resolved, nothing is improved, no one feels better.
  • You can't know what jake feels though.
    Spoiler:
  • Yeah,
    Spoiler:

I do think that my disappointment with Nocturnal Animals is largely down to me expecting something different. My fault, maybe more than that of the film. Or maybe the trailer and PR’s fault for leading me to expect a thriller?
  • I liked it.

It's about the flaws, hangups and desires of 2 characters, and does a good job. They remain flawed - why shouldn't they?
  • I loved Nocturnal Animals, beautifully shot and a fairly gripping malice-led thriller. Most of the criticisms here seem to be about the nastiness of it all, but it seems that the film is designed to unsettle and unnerve you, starting with that opening.
  • Nastiness is okay but this felt mysoginstic.
    Spoiler:
  • That does look like fun.

  • My mate's in Kingsmen 2. He's in SO19 and was asked to be a weapon toting extra.

The Jaeger Uprising sounds like something that happens out of a taxi window at 2am on a Sunday morning.

Loved the first one, this looks equally as much fun.

They filmed the car chase scene pretty much 5 mins walk from where I live.

WftPotA has a fantastic first act, but lost momentum in the second and became increasingly silly towards the end. Woody seemed to be uncharacteristically wooden (perhaps intentionallly?), which felt odd given that he was often playing against a remarkably empathetic CGI ape. I'm still impressed overall although RotPotA remains my favourite of the series so far.

That trailer for the new David Ayers film is certainly a thing. I'll give it a drunken watch - especially as it's a Netflix movie

  • Took me a while to work out what WftPoftA was.
I suggest we call it waRAPES.
They'll think they're getting pissed off by rape.

  • I went to WarApes last night. For some reason just didn't get into it that much. Perhaps the ratio of apes to humans has gone too far in favour of the former - as realistic as they look there's something about watching a load of fake apes for most of the film that didn't maintain the immersion.

Even so, it was pretty good once it got going and a fitting end to the trilogy. I like the direction it took in the second half and that it avoided
    Spoiler:
  • I watched Dunkirk.

If you have a proper IMAX nearby I strongly suggest seeing it there. So much of it filmed in the 1570 format it makes you wonder why there's any bits that weren't. Bizarre.
As a movie, I'm not sure really. It starts quite strong but straight away the lack of blood I found to be quite jarring. It seems to be trying to be a realistic portrayal of what happened but then non-violent violence betrays that.
    Spoiler:

Ultimately it's okay. It just lost me by the end. Not sure if it was our screening and the film reels but there was some disjointed colour correction between cuts at points too.

I look for to checking out the Making Of stuff though as I imagine there's a lot of real stuff in there.

Still, doesn't really come close to challenging his other movies with The Prestige being the only one I want to watch again every now and then with Interstellar being second with some quality powerful moments. Then I guess Batman or whatever.
