I prefer the FE games that don't have grinding, like the DS one and the first GBA one. They effectively make you choose a party from the options available and stick with it, because there's not enough XP to go around for everyone. In fact, maximising XP by getting lower level characters to finish off enemies is one of the more interesting tactical considerations (all FE games give you a high level character to use from the start, but the trick is not to use him). I find the random battles in the Sacred Stones spoiled that a lot.Moot_Geeza wrote:I've only played the GBA original and the 3DS one, so it looks like I made the right choice, albeit accidentally. The term 'grindfest' suits the game, but doesn't apply to my thoughts on it. The idea of grinding in traditional RPGs bores me to tears (it's been fifteen years since my last one), but the battles in FE don't fall into the bracket of grinding when I'm playing them. The battles are the fun part, everything else is window dressing I could do without. The cut-scenes are top drawer though, I didn't skip any anime bits.

1. Wario Ware (or Twsted)
2. Kuru Kuru (either game, both superb)
3. Astro Boy
4. Advance Wars
5. Mario kart: Super Circuit
6. Fire Emblem
7. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga
8. Wade Hixton's Counter Punch
9. Spyro: Eternal Night
10. Sonic Advance 2
This was easily the toughest list to compile, there are at least five other exclusives I'm itching to mention.

I thought about a Metroid in my top GBA games, and both Fusion and Zero Mission are solid, but I can never fully get behind a Metroid game that tells you where to go next. It's more accessible for sure, but some games just benefit from making it possible to get lost/stuck, and Metroid is one of them.Childintime wrote:Yeah, fair enough. People too often forget in these kinds of things that any omission must necessitate the removal of a game - that's a decent 10 - they often just comment on which game is forgotten without saying which game it should replace. For me, Fusion is the GBAs best game. But if you didn't play it much then ok, it can't be included in your top 10. Check it out more in future, though - it's well worth it.
