I've never understood Rez. Nice to look at but the aurally generated stuff never really wowed me. Maybe because I'm not that much of a music person. Or I'm a pleb. Child of Eden confused me in the same way.

Some ideas of mine, no order yet, but:

    MSR
    Crazy Taxi
    Jet Set Radio
    Powerstone 2
    Civ III
    GTA III
    KOTOR
    Half Life 2
    Total Annihilation
    Battlefield 2
    Dungeon Keeper
    Mech Commander
    Deus Ex

I'm not sure if all of those qualify.
Total Annihilation doesn't qualify (too early at 1997). Great game, maybe I'm just showing a preference for graphics over strategy (or maybe just because I payed Single Player) in saying this, but I preferred it to StarCraft, which I just didn't get on with.

(Note: I'm basing the assumption that StartCraft was more strategic because of it's popularity in e-sports rather than any knowledge to the contrary).
  • Dungeon Keeper is also 97.

    A fine month.

XBox: PGR2, Halo, Oddworld Strangers Wrath, Beyond Good and Evil, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, Rainbow Six 3, Outrun 2
GameCube: Super Monkey Ball, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Smash Football,
GBA: Metal Slug Advance, Advance Wars, Kuru Kuru Kururin,
    Other:

Rez should really be listed under DC...
  • Unless of course you played it on PS2.

Thank the lord someone else appreciates the GC updates of 1080 and Waverace. I thought they were splendid.

That DC lineup is excellent. I agonised over Daytona myself. Sega Rally 2 is quite underrated.

Does anyone know of PD Orta plays OK in a 360? One of the few Oldbox games I wouldn't mind getting my mitts on.

    Fantavision is an interesting choice.

  • Orta has an unfixed fault on 360 that prevents play past the third stage I believe, which has always out me off trying it.

Rez didn't grab me straight away but it gets better the more you play it.

The PS2 version runs smoother and has better sounds. Only the transition effects are better on DC.

GameCube was the first time I got to experience either 1080 or Wave Race at home, as opposed to quick goes on some else's N64, so I loved both. I really enjoyed Sega Rally 2, especially the non-letterboxed Jap version. It does seem a forgotten game, the early DC line up over here was full of good stuff so maybe it was overlooked for the other games on offer (I know Power Stone and Soul Calibur took up most of my time at first).

Fantavision, I just got into it and enjoyed the experience.

I've the PAL version of Sega Rally 2 but I play it using the VGA cable and that addresses the reported frame rate issues and the borders.

Dreamcast = VGA cable though. I have both versions and can't say I notice much difference. (But Rez via VGA is lovely)

    Guess what,

It doesn't matter. You guys all like Rez.
  • What about Rez HD though, the definitive Rez, in HD.

    Fuck that.

I trialled the HD version of Radiant Silvergun and they managed to make it look like a freeware Euroshmup.

……how much is it I wonder?

  • Rez HD is actually brilliant, just a shame it's not on PC for mental screen resolution.
  • I seem to have just bought a GameCube. Any recommendations?
