Didn't know that. Tbh, I'm even less bothered about his lifestyle than the police are...
Let's just say he could at least call the landlord to discuss decorating plans.

Watching a report on the Beeb from outside the Scottish courthouse where the anti-prorogation case is being heard and there’s literally the sound of a bagpiper in the background.

Is this some sort of official court function?
  • Like rats in London, you're never more than 10ft away from a Piper in Edinburgh.

  • Aye, court's on the Royal Mile, which is their spawning grounds.
  • I thought they'd fixed that spawn trigger in the patch notes in the Quater 3 2014 update

If the EU hold firm, and parliament are scuppered in their attempts to halt no-deal brexit - I don't see how BoJo can walk away from it, even if he'd rather do so.  He's in too deep now, that's my concern.  His bluff will be called, and he won't know what to do.
  • So Boris is 'ramping up' more talks with Brussels.

But given both sides positions doesn't this amount to:

Uk: "we can't start talks until you take out the backstop"

    Eu: "have you an alternative?"

Uk: "we can't talk about them until you take it out"

Eu: "OK, see you in 2 days time so"

  • The next Labour government should just call vaguely worded advisory referendums like: "We should have greater economic equality" or "Save the NHS" and then when they win, use the results to justify doing whatever they want.

    On every issue.

    Forever.

The reply underneath to mousebiber is pure fire.
  • Yeah, I liked that too.
  • So the unelected Dominic Cummings sacked one of Javid's advisors without Javid knowing prior to the sacking.

    Taking back control.
    Taking back sovereignty.

Yeah I don't quite get that. Like who can he sack? Anyone? Me?!?
  • I don’t know who the creative agency are behind the Gov’s ‘GET READY’ campaign for Brexit, but I think they’ve nailed it.

  • "HELLO, IS ANYBODY THERE!?!"
Is a phrase often shouted at brexiteers.

The more that is revealed about this the more disturbing it is.
    Javid was apparently livid.
The fact he hasn't quit shows what a coward he is. All these MPs still aligned to the Tory party, especially the cabinet are disgusting. Far more so than those who enacted austerity. What is happening now is worse, this is an attempt to end our democracy.
Armed police escorting staff out of the office.

This is as close to Weimar 1933 as it gets.

The next steps will be arresting people who talk of rebellion. Careful what you post on the major social media sites.

  • When (if?) the UK crashes out Boris will go in ge mode. He delivered Brexit while the traitors (Labour, remain, the eu) tried stopping the Will of the people. Together a beautiful utopia can be built, if only one would seize the day. Who is with Boris?

And then the recession and chaos hit and the future becomes a bit unpredictable. How a ge would unfold under these circumstances is anyone's guess even with powerful targeted propaganda and disinformation tools like social media. Boris is betting big but a slight miscalculation might cost him his head. He's banking everything on his propaganda spitting machine (Cummings!) to get him through but depending on the impact of the following recession his strategy might backfire. In his face.

  • Quick question - under UK employment law would khan not have a really strong case for unfair dismissal? If this happened over here it would be straight to the courts with a pretty big pay out near guaranteed.

    1) it'll settle out of court
    2) depends how long she's been in the post re: claiming unfair dismissal.

Don't wank. Zinc in your sperms
  • Well yeah, point 1 is likely. I should have phrased the questions better - this seems like blatant unfair dismissal (unless there were other issues leading up to this). You could not do this in ireland, and I'm surprised you could do it in the UK.
    SFV - reddave360
  • I suspect you could do it in Ireland, but that you would get sued, unless it 1) settles out of court or 2) employee protection hasn't kicked in yet - which protection I suspect is no more generous in Ireland than here, because of your own entire corporate shilling system over there.

Don't wank. Zinc in your sperms
  • You might be able to do it (but not in this manner) within the first 6 months. Dismissing someone on the spot though is a hr no no. In most cases it will be settled out of court as the cost of going to court is weighed off against the benefits of winning. A straight 'you're fired, pack your bags' isn't possible here without a costly follow up.

We may be corporate shills but we love HR too. And insurance, don't forgot insurance

There must be provisions for gross misconduct, surely? If someone punched a coworker in the face during a meeting, are you really saying that they couldn’t be sacked on the spot?

They would be suspended pending an investigation, and dismissed at the end of it as the evidence would be iron clad in that case.

I hate what Boris Johnson has done, but you have to admire his strategy.
As heavy handed as it is.

    But the ends... Fucking hell.

I'm now starting to believe that his end goal is to leave without a deal, or leave with a stupid deal that basically means the Northern Ireland border will be protected by a handful of webcams attached to Windows 10, with the option harden that border at any time.

Which I somehow suspect a Tory government eventually would do, if they get the chance.

I know what other routes may look like, that wasn’t my question.
  • I'm not saying this is another route. I'm saying this is THE route.
