  • Bob, missed your comments regarding set up. I'll post mine when I'm at home.

Latest update on the Xbox has sorted loads out. I was getting quite a lot of judder in the replays and framerate was extremly patchy in some areas, that now seems to have been resolved. I also seem to have reflected break lights now...

Apparently the next update should see some bigger improvements apparently:
I want to say guys that the new frame rate improvements on the way for Xbox are really excellent. It's up there with PS4 for the most part now. Even faster in some cases.

We've also nailed some more instabilities among a ton of mini improvements and some things you guys have asked us to add.
If any of you are playing it you should check out the Pcars forum, Ian Bell, the head of Slightly Mad Studios is quite a prolific poster and keeps updating forum with issue resolutions etc. I'm not saying that the game should have shipped in such a state but it's great to see a studio head interacting with the minions.

  • Damn, that's disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing how badly it'd turn out.

Not surprising seeing as the big N are still sitting on a release date for the U.

  • Finally had chance to have a go on this and was pretty gutted.

I chose to start in a one make Clio cup. Skipped practice cos I knew the circuit and went straight to qualy.

Almost immedeately my team send me out into another car coming out at exactly the same time and I just automatically turned into it. Immersion breaking from the off.

Then it out accelerated me from the pit lane.. then it braked right at the apex of the corner. With assists off I braked at the same point and went straight off the track.

The handling doesn't feel great either. Will have to have a play about with the settings but after an hour I couldn't string a lap together to get a single timed effort on the board.. The AI are really aggressive in qualifying regardless of whether they're on an outlap or hot lap.. really this generation should be where we stop chasing shiny and start making things better.

  • It is a weird one Bob. It's littered with bugs although some of the patches have eliminated some of the worse ones (cpu not affected by rain etc) but I have just persevered and am now loving it. The handling with the pad needs tweaking (promise I'll upload my set up, remember I have the bone version though) and remember your tyres need warming before they start to grip.

I'm loving the karts at the moment, but Ginetta racing around Cadwell Park and Oulton Park is a great way of learning the ropes on great tracks. Perseverance will reward you in time Bob, the handling model is sublime once it clicks but I agree it should handle straight out of the box.

I think I got these from Eurogamer, a few people said they were decent settings:

    Steering Deadzone : 15

    Steering Sensitivity : 0

    Throttle Deadzone : 0

    Throttle Sensitivity : 30

    Brake Deadzone : 13

    Brake Sensitivity : 15

    Clutch Deadzone : 0

    Clutch Sensitivity : 45

    Speed Sensitivity : 75

    Controller Filtering Sensitivity : 50

    Force Feedback : 80

    Controller Input Mode : 3

    Advanced : OFF

I've not tried them, I used the defaults, played for a couple of hours and decided I need a wheel. That's not going to happen, so I should get back on it.
  • Cheers bird. I'll try those.

Can it be so hard to do good ai though. Surely they could warm their tires up and use the same settings as me?
    The Forum Herald™
  • I think they're trying to resolve that in the next patch Bob along with a pit stop issue that puts you out with flat tyres.

  • Bob, try these if you have no joy with Birdorf's

    Steering Deadzone - 0
    Steering Sensitivity - 0
    Throttle Deadzone - 0
    Throttle Sensitivity - 25
    Brake Deadzone - 0
    Brake Sensitivity - 25
    Clutch Deadzone - 0
    Clutch Sensitivity - 25
Speed Sensitivity - 75 (I adjust only this value as needed depending on car type)
    Controller Filtering Sensitivity - 50
    Force Feedback - 100
    RPM/Gear Display Yes

    Controller Input Mode - 2
    Advanced - On
    Apply Soft Steering - On
    Apply Visual Filtering - Off
Apply Opposite Lock Help - Off

  • The input mode is really important as it affects things behind the scenes, so set the input mode first then alter your other settings.

  • Hmmm I don't really have time for hours of experimentation now. Having said that I know how it felt in the Clio on default so I'll try yours and see how it feels then birds and if neither fix it it's getting traded.
    The Forum Herald™
  • The first set up is pretty much undriveable on pad, heavy, laggy and impossible to change direction with out spinning out with assists off.

The second one at least makes it playable,
    The Forum Herald™
  • All sounds like far too much effort for a console game. That level of tinkering belongs on PCs imo.
Come with g if you want to live...
  • I'm starting to think you might be right g. Stopped clock and all I suppose.
    The Forum Herald™
  • Clio and cars of that class are horribly floaty in this, try with the speed 6, or something faster.
  • I'll see out this season in the Clio and try something else digi..
    The Forum Herald™
  • Some more tweaking and it's starting to come together. I've knocked the AI down a bit so that there not unfeasably quick and that stops them battering me.

Learned not to worry about how they drive either. It's taken a while to stop trying to driveclub it. It needs early braking and riding the apex and get back on the power early to drive through the corner while taking maximum curb. Got pole by .16 of a second so I think I've got the AI challenge just about right.

Then to tame the Clio's rampant understeer had a play around with the tuning. Reduced the front tyre pressures and moved the brake bias back a bit. Tuned the gear ratios more to acceleration while I was at it.

It seems you'd need a lot of time to get it running to your absolute taste but at least it's driveable now.

I also noticed in default settings the Pit stop was automatically putting wet tires regardless of the weather. So fixed that too.

Then, running third in the longer race the pit crew couldn't get a stuck wheel nut off and I finished in 15th.

It's annoying when cars ghost through yours although I suppose its better than having an accident because the AI can't cope with coming back onto the track.

Before the console is even launched? That's harsh.
PSN: LtPidgeon - Live: Lt Pidgeon
  • Continues to impress and disappoint in equal measure, I've tamed the Clio and it feels nice but pleasingly skittish on the limit,

On my out lap it starts to spot with rain and there's immense pressure to get a good next lap in cos you know you've only got one lap before its to wet and you'll have to switch tires.

During the race I get stuck with a really slow pit stop. My mechanic announces my gearbox has failed. They send me back out. My gearbox is fine. I finish eighth.
    The Forum Herald™
  • So it's starting to come into its own a little.

There's a lot of bonkers decision making but thankfully nearly everything can be tweeked. Practice sessions will often see the car fueled for about two laps. If it runs out on track your stuck. Likewise Lebob someone and get rolled onto your roof. Stuck. No option (at least that it tells you about) to reset to track.

Last nights career went Ruf GT car in the fog at Brands. I know the circuit well but the lack of visibility was challenging and the slippy conditions in a rear engine rwd car made for quite a challenge. Still got 3rd.

Then Dubai in single seaters which was amazing. The downforce and grip and cockpit view all made for a brilliant couple of races.. coming out of my warm up lap for qualy I caught up with traffic and thought.. i should of tried to make some space.. f1 style.

Then classic touring cars. Trying to tame a mark one 4 speed escort with rock hard tires (Seriously two whole laps to warm up) qualified 15th and made for a tough race.

It's far to harsh on disqualifying times as well which can make qualifying hard. Especially if you do at the end of the lap as it disqualifies the time for the next lap too. Mostly if you run wide your not even gaining an advantage.
    The Forum Herald™
  • There should be a reset to track button, there is on the Bone wheel anyhow ( think its the menu button so maybe the touch pad on the PS4?)

I love it but it's exhausting and tend to play it in short stints. Yes it's still riddled with bugs, but the combination of the wheel feedback and helmet cam is so immersive it's even got my wife playing it which is a massive endorsement for someone who hasn't been interested in games since Super Frog on the Amiga.
