    I'm a fan of the shooty, and the sheer wanton destruction you can rack up. I'm on a bus, drunk ATM, but I do like it although dont think it's the second coming. It's an aesthetic mishmash but some of that works in its favour. I think consoles have restricted ambition, again, as fidelity and intent have been casualties in the scrum.

    For pure shooting, Judgment is king as its weapon caches, randomised opponents and mission modifiers keep you on your toes sufficiently. That said, the orchestral sting of a headshot in Infinite still scratches a pleasure itch, and the lurching whole is entirely adequate for my tastes. The only shame is Vigor specialisation setting in too early, and the more interesting combos are too costly. The video earlier raises plenty of points but in my eyes it the latter half shows that both publisher and audience need to stop pushing/expecting unreasonable shit from games this cycle.

  • It's kinda their own fault when they spend as much as they do on presentation and then PR, though of course we're not talking about a studio that can ultimately afford to dodge (or believes it can't) AAA trends, however retarded.
  • Yup, that's the slice. Maybe one day we'll get the game promised in 2k11 or whatever, but the ultimately hollow Columbia with its disappearing proles is a technical limitation rather than an aesthetic choice. It's far easier to create a realistic skeketon dystopia than a mutable riots-in-the-wings utopia. Fuck a console, yeah?

  • Also for a game that's as OTT about its Racism as it is, I'm expecting to hear "nigger" a lot more. Not that this title is particularly concerned with the impact of anachronism.

  • Agency as hollow fetish. Granted, this describes many videogames but come the fuck on.
  • Some of the design choices are bizarre. Still, it's a pretty good game as a whole, even if it's not that good a shooter. If you're only allowed two equips the mechanics need to be at least as good as Halo, and they're not. Nowhere near.

    And it's not as good as Bioshock, which still has the best opening hour of any game I've ever played.

  • I would agree in most games that a player being given notionally some choice such that the player gets a different ending is a bit woopdedoo. I just think probably in this instance there is a justifiable reason for the player/character to not autmatically blunder into a baptism. Even if its just a second to pause to think about it.

    Sick of pressing x to catch things. The world is amazing but gameplay is MEH.

  • I've been going back to it with my girlfriend over the last week or so and I don't get that, there is so much to the combat that if you're willing to experiment with stuff it's a joy. The only complaint I can see is that the Salt goes too quickly, but when you're ripping stuff through tears, dashing on skyrails, snapping people's necks, covering a group in crows and then setting them on fire before launching another lot into the air and blowing them up with an RPG I can't quite see where the 'dull gameplay' a bunch of people are reporting is coming from. It's bristling with stuff.
