Politics of the Free - It’s because Democrats, stupid.
  • And still (further to the discussion in the British politics thread) many voters will look at that conference and think nasty reporter, fake news, strong trump.

Fox and the rights whole thing against Obama (Well, one of the bigger things) was a "worry" of his over use of executive decision, too much power, big bad federal government yada yada. And yet here is their guy, basically saying he can do what he wants, federal government can do what they want. And yet the spin will be that they like a strong man in charge. They like a guy who insists he is the boss. Just imagine if Obama had given close to a speech like what trump did.

  • It's all about the agenda of the strong man. If it's a right wing, big business friendly agenda, bring it on! If it's a lefty socialist Bernie agenda, can't trust it. Government becomes evil.

The right likes to advocate a minimalist government except for when law, policy and governance are in their favour. The safeguarding of the all important 'perks' (read: status quo) which are invisible to the blue collars who don't really care either way because they don't understand all the political and legal mumbo jumbo. 'I trust him, he looks to be a strong and competent leader who's on our side! Besides, he's rich so he must know what he's doing!'

And so, come election time history repeats.
    Ad infinitum.

  • I often wonder about Baron at times like these.  Him and mum, sat there hugging in front of the tv, watching and listening, and her with her watering eyes wondering if a green card was actually worth all this and Baron just silently staring back, eyes wide, pleading for her to just run.
  • I read Sopel's piece on the Trump conference yesterday and all I could think was "he is loving this, absolutely loving it". He paints this picture of Trump as this aberration, freak show of a president "my god look at him" and all the while revels in the clicks and eye balls, never acknowledging his part in playing trump's game, fucking media sycophant wankers

    Yeah. Sad ain't it.

Just curious how people here feel about Sanders endorsing Biden, especially those who feel Biden is just as bad as trump, just different packaging.

Sanders didn't have to endorse him, I kinda fell he wouldnt have unless he genuinely felt that Biden was a better choice. It's not like he is likely to be able to get another run in 4 years time so he doesnt have to play nice.

  • Trump's ego really is something else, it's a shame it can only be sated by doing selfish and immoral things.

"it was reported that $1,200 relief cheques for as many as 70 million people could be delayed for several days because Trump wanted his name printed on them"

That's his pathetic legacy, he's a contemptible person.
  • I know you all probably know that already, I'm just trying to politely channel some rage.
  • Sanders has to endorse Biden.

Biden isn't as bad a Trump, but he's ever so slightly better. The main thing is he's not a complete lunatic who will change things on a whim. He's just bad man who believes in things that are extremely damaging to working class people. The end result is slightly less damage cause by the president, but higher participation in downballot votes where you can elect people who aren't morally bankrupt and stand a chance of getting material improvement to peoples lives.

I'd imagine Sanders has to agree, maybe only tacitly, to support the nominee in order to get Democratic support to begin with. Plus, he's as keep to get rid of Trump as anyone and getting behind Biden is the only possibility of that happening now.

Watching that press briefing when he played that video - looking from them to it like the man-child that he is.  As if an edited video sequence is evidence.

Why do they even bother to turn up and listen to this tosser? He isn't evil - I don't think he has the mental capacity for evil any more than a toddler throwing a strop does. He's just a prat.

It should be broadcast live - and instead of journalists attending just give a few hundred dollars to unemployed randomers to sit there and listen to him.

Does anyone here consider it possible that a 2nd term Trump would try and make a certain constitutional change?

I ask because I do.  He is monstrous - like that giant child in Spirited Away.

  • Of course he’ll try. Putin’s done it already and he think’s Putin’s great. He’s met Orban before as well, hasn’t he? Bet he liked the way Orban changed Hungary’s laws to let himself rule by decree …
  • I don't think he will, and they'd never allow it anyway. I wonder what his rating are right now? Probably quite high but it won't last.

  • Oh, America.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/shaharziv/2020/04/14/why-are-rich-americans-getting-17-million-stimulus-checks

Part of the emergency aid package passed into law in the US removes a cap on a certain type of tax avoidance. The wealthier you are, the more useful to you this will be. And it’s backdated to 2018. Forbes have worked out that the mean windfall payment to the wealthiest 43,000 Americans will be $1.7m each.
For those earning $1 million annually, a tax break buried in the recent coronavirus relief legislation is so generous that its total cost is more than total new funding for all hospitals in America and more than the total provided to all state and local governments.
  • Don't forget these pricks removed the oversight on where the stimulus package money was being spent.

Shout outs to all the friends of Trump and their probably new medical PPE distribution companies that are suspiciously less than a month old.

I made the point a while back. Look at how he acts. First, it's all about him so if he wins 4 more years this year, I reckon he will seriously consider pushing for it. And the republican party have shown they really give 2 fucks about the constitution as long as they stay in power.

Second, if he loses... He will definitely declare every conspiracy from voter fraud to media lies to outside interference. He won't go quietly. And again, the problem is the republican party have shown that they will not only tolerate but actively back and endorse his bullshit.

All those nuts buying ammo will happily buy into a narrative that the deepstate or the media is trying to oust 'their' guy. And I think they might just take up arms.

They did it for that guy who was using government land to feed his cattle and not pay anything. You think they won't for trump?
