Best thing to use them for is to add slots to your 1 and 2 star gear. You can also reroll the abilities, but that's usually not recommended. Ask Murch about details.
Adding slots to 1 star gear is the cheapest way to grind for abilities. They take less exp to roll a new ability, so you get them quicker. If you're going for specific abilities, check a guide, as each brand favors different abilities.
If you decide to use drinks to up your chances for an ability, don't use it while wearing a brand that favours the same ability, they cancel each other out.
You'll only grind for abilities if you want to add them to gear, scrubbing your clothes gives you chunks, 10 are needed to add an ability to a slot. If you want to add the same ability for a second time, another 20, another 30 if you want all three sub abilities the same. Who says this game ain't fun? So much collecting to do!
I haven't been paying attention to any of the abilities or unlocks or that stuff. I don't even know what the little symbols on the gear mean. One seems to make a squid into a saint or something.
I seriously hate ranked mode. I just can't get anywhere at all. Wins and losses are such that I just end up back at zero even after a run of decent games. Don't think there's any chance of me unlocking the next mode.
Had a great stretch on Salmon Run this afternoon. Pro-freshinal, baby.
Been Profreshinal for weeks now, well untill last Friday when I decided to hop on & play a few runs drunk, got bumped down to overachiever. Started again Sunday & the first hour did not go well, got bumped down to go-getter after 3 round 1 wipes straight off the bat. A very painful afternoon followed as I played with (a) low rankers who don't have a bloody cue & (b) the map was Lost outpost(which imo, is the hardest map atm). Throw in a sloghty dodgy weapon hire set & it was a slog to get back to profresh. Got there & vowed to never play that mode again when I'm half cut, never want to drop down that far again as it's 50/50 if you end up with a half decent crew. At profresh pretty much everyone knows the score & how to gather & protect.
After being disappointed with Arms (nice idea just terribly shallow) I have been holding off getting this, but I could do with something else to take on the plane - is the single player any good?
If you have played the story from Splatoon 1, I would say no, it lives in the originals shadow. Plus it's not a very long campaign so if you have no interest in playing multi, I would perhaps pass on a purchase.
I'm not opposed to multiplayer, just if I'm playing on the plane I won't have the opportunity (heading from Australia to Germany for big boardgames convention)
I wouldn't say Splatoon is particularly deep. It's very good throwaway fun, I think.
Unlocked Ranked yesterday. Didn't really understand what I was supposed to be doing but it seemed to go well enough overall. Do you start jumping ranks quicker if you go on win streaks?
I haven't bought Arms because I don't see where the £50-odd of value is supposed to come from. But with Splatoon you should be able to get a decent £/hour ratio if you like it. The single-player is decent and adds value to the package but isn't worth buying the game for in and of itself. Like crayon says, you might want to think about Rabbids for single-player.
Also, if this convention is a week or so away then Picross is coming out... next week? Everyone loves Picross. EVERYONE.
