Destiny 2 - Developed by Bungie
  • So, we're looking at £450 for a Scorpio plus a copy of Destiny 2 which rounds it up to £500 - and I'm still not getting 60fps?? Fucking lol.

I can get a gaming rig for that money surely? After looking at that PC footage I'm fairly convinced. I've been wanting a new PC for a while...

Interview yesterday Bungie seemed to confirm nor will it be in 4k. Is on Pro.

  • The Xbox X and PS4 Pro have both been designed for 4k not 60 fsp the CPU in both consoles is only about 30% better than those in the standard consoles. All the extra power has been put into the GPU which is going to favour resolution over frame rate.

Also you're not going to get 60 fps in multiplayer if the standard console can't do it too. It offers too much of an advantage and something of a pay to win system, which is something the platform holder will want to avoid.

    Same. It's baffling
  • Aye but none will play as well as Destiny. Never forget how fucking good this game is to play. It's the zenith of shooters. Destiny 2 will be the same but more.

This is why I already have 2 preordered, despite the fact I have never played pvp or even a raid. It's like mario kart as a shooter.

100fps for 1,000 polygons is something my calculator could do.

Just seems a small bit laughable at this stage that we still aren't able to get 60fps as standard on our consoles when PCs have been achieving this since well, day 1. I was playing CS at over 100fps back in 2002. And yes I know, graphics and physics and all that but still. The next generational update has to absolutely guarantee 60fps. No ifs, buts or maybes.

I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Just seen some footage of this over on Kotaku running at 4k/60fps, no 4k monitor here so that matters not a jot but it looked very nice. Apparently Nvidia bods have had it running at 144fps too, as the PC version is unlocked.
  • Have they mentioned what specs that is running on?
  • The 60FPS 4K demo machines were, according to eurogamer, playing on PCs running an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU, an Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2Ghz CPU and 16GB Ram, which is basically at the higher end of what you can achieve with out of he box stuff, before going mad with SLI setups, stupid amounts of ram and so on.

They ran the demo at a capped 60fps*, with 4k resolution. They've not released minimum or recommended specs yet but I imagine they'll be more modest than whats on show there, though I've never bothered to try and hit 4K on anything I've played so I dunno what kind of drain it is. The real advantage is the beefy CPU and lack of bottlenecking, I'd guesstimate Recommended will be i5, GTX 1050, 8GB of ram, for 60fps 1080.

*this might mean those PCs were cappable of higher than 60fps, but capping it can make it more stable and stop it spiking which can feel unnatural.
  • Cripes. That's an expensive machine!
  • It is indeed, a decent chunk more expensive than mine, with the advantage it would probably decimate anything you threw at it for the next 4 years

I'd say you're spot on there Tempy with the specs. The devs even said that the game isn't scaled to be top tier graphics and most of the horse power goes into particle effects and physics so a GTX 1050ti with 8bg of ram and an i7 should run you at 60fps 1080.

I had a debate with a few guys yesterday in relation to this. Again, I was waffling on about Scorpio not running the game at 60fps - for whatever reason (lets leave out conspiracy theories for the time being) this is when you add up the cost of the Scorpio and bundle in a 4k TV (for the intended experience) you are looking at in and around 1400-1500 space credits.

For this price you can get a PC that will guarantee you a true 4k experience with 60fps. I'll still play on Xbox initially, but the 30fps downgrade is going to be a serious pill to swallow.
  • Again, Scorpio has not been confirmed to be running D2 at 4k.

I find it hard to believe they won't patch it when Scorpio launches, but they very deliberately swerved the question when asked, and it's potentially a lot of work for a very small fraction of players.

    Dunno, we'll see I guess.

I'm going all in for D2 - a new Pro and an OLED. Going to be int he region of 3.5k I think. Bungie better not mess this one up.

  • You're bonkers. If you're spending that sort of money surely PC is the way to go? You can still pick up the console version to play with badgers.
  • Not PC guy, never have been.

Games are for pads and sofas.

And we're definitely long overdue a nice telly. My living room's currently like a 3rd world country.

  • You can hook a pc up to your TV and use a pad. That's my plan.
  • Spending 3.5k to play Destiny on your tod is what would be bonkers.
  • Spending three thousand pounds on a tv should be illegal
  • He's on benefits as well.

Pretty sure TV's can be used for more than just playing games lads.

If considering a top end TV @JRPC before going OLED I'd seriously consider the Panasonic DX902 (either 58" or 65"). I went with the 65 and it's a ridiculously good TV. Only negative is it's not super thin (or light) due to the backlight technology. For HDR content it's one of the best and has pretty much universally positive reviews. For OLED you really want to be spending more like £4k to be getting the best tech. Even though this was released in 2016 it's still Panasonics flagship LED Tv. It cost £3500 when released but you can pick one up for around £1800 which is a bargain.

Same could be said for PCs. It's where you choose to place value. I bought a nice PC two years ago and it already needs upgrading if I want to play Destiny 4K. A TV like that will last ten years. But each to their own.
  • I meant it should be actually illegal to sell them too, they should not exist, it's nearly enough money to eat for a year, it's insanity.

I'm pretty sure my brain is wrong anyway, because the higher the price the TV the less i'd like to do anything other than play games on it. Every time I see film or TV on them I feel a bit ill. It's probably down to people not turning off motion correction or whatever it's called, but still i've never been left with a good impression off the back of viewing one.

Edit: @boris, if it's nice and you bought it two years ago surely you could just slam a 1050/60/70/80 in it and you'd be set for the next 4-8 years anyway?

@Tempy It's got a 1080 (not a ti) in but it won't do 4k except stuff like Elite which is light on polys. But it would probably also need an i7 so again we are moving into another console territory. Would rather spend it on a switch TBF.

Regarding OOB TVs yes loads of them ship with all the stuff switched on. I geeked out at AV Forums which pretty much suggests switching most of that stuff off to get a more natural feel for film. You then have a separate profile for gaming. Honestly, some of the UHD films I've watched have been better than the cinema.
  • I dunno all that fiddling stuff sounds a bit too close to PC territory for me

    (wink)
  • So you're saying I should upgrade from my current tv then Boris?

  • Nah that's perfect, in the end all these numbers get away from the real experience in Destiny: numbers.

I'd seriously consider a box PC for that price and have it running Stream Picture Mode ect. It's basically a console but with all the power.
