The No Subject Thread
  • Re art stuff. Cheers will have a look at etsy
  • Is the Amazon package listed as delivery by Prime? If so the forecast might not be accurate, a lot of stuff just turns up a lot quicker than the estimate. Had to get a replacement cable for my wacom tablet/PS4 controller and it estimated three weeks and then arrived the next day.

Do we have an Art thread? Missus wants to buy a few pieces for the house. I have no idea where we would start to look. Any uk websites people recommend? Budget wise it would be low end but it would be nice to have something original. Any help is appreciated.
Depends on budget but really at the low end you're probably not getting much original, numbered prints and stuff sure, but I think you'd struggle with originals.  My advice is to try and work out either what style of art you want, or what you want a picture of or even abstract stuff like what colour you want it, and then have a trawl through Etsy or something just searching by those terms and see what comes up if you want something that's going to be something done by a person and not mass produced.

Just do what I did and buy this, the greatest piece of art ever created, from InPrint

    I don't have prime :(
  • I'm not sure exactly what kind of clippers you're after H, but Tesco (and presumably other similarly stocked supermarkets) have electric hair trimmers and suchlike on their shelves next to the razors.
Come with g if you want to live...

Just so you don't waste a trip into plague town, I'd order then click and collect from Tesco or something so you know you'll get them. Argos might be a good shout too, to reserve them before you go.

  • Boots or Superdrug might have them as well, but I wonder about stock.
  • For clippers spend a bit extra if you can and get Wahl which is standard issue for all barbers. You can get the ones with a cord for about 60 I think.
  • Wahl really are so far ahead of the competition for this stuff
  • So it's VE day... Am I alone in feeling a disconnect between everyone putting bunting up and eating scones and everything else going on?

Or are y'all out having street parties and BBQs?
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
  • Think it fits pretty well with the Brexit mentality at least half of the populace are into
  • Think that's part of the problem for me. It's now all associated with brexit and 'if you don't have a union Jack you hate Britain'

    True for me
  • Remember to paint your entire body in the Union flag and chant "one World Cup and two world wars" at 8pm tonight
  • Scotland doesn’t seem to be falling for any of this nonsense, thankfully.

I’m quite annoyed at the pagan spring festival, and Socialist celebration of worker’s rights, has been unceremoniously punted by five days and co-opted for a jingoistic singalong.

We cancelled Beltane for this shit?
  • I've reached a weird point with my Uni work where basically everything apart from my dissertation proposal is at the "those last few hours will get it finished up" and it's almost impossible to conjure up that effort.
  • I’ve been working on a sustainability report for a client for months now. Got up at 4:30am this morning to start final amends on it. I’m so nearly there now, only one or two things left to do … and my brain’s not fucking having it any more. So I’m spending a few minutes here. Giving myself a break.
  • I wasn't asleep until 3am, not having to work and not having to attend anything has buggered my schedule right up.

What a wild week. I know I shouldn't be so blasé, but there's still plenty of families out there without WiFi access in their households and it has been a real battle between social work, ourselves, getting printed off materials for those in buildings, and lots of other volunteers in getting resources out to people.

One of those times I remember WiFi still isn't an expectation, it's very much a luxury.
  • Today's been lovely. After watching the 2 minute silence on BBC and feeling a whole bunch of emotions, we've sat outside the front of our house with other neighbours drinking tea and eating cakes (this has now progressed to gin) and playing gutterball whilst listening to 80s music. It may be simple but that's the point.

Im not good at articulating stuff but today's been realy grounded in the best ways possible.

    Happy rant over.
  • I've just seen an advert pushing Lynx Africa as a retro celebration product for its 25th anniversary and now I feel old.

Lynx Africa was the signature stench of my school France trip.

I genuinely think I could get through a full day using quotes from that and nobody would notice.
