WTF is it with the way the main character runs it looks comical in the worst way. The first game had it but this seems worse somehow. The double jump is laughable.
Combat looks terrible. Platforming looks terrible. The performance is a real downer.
I just looked at a PC review and it looks straight up broken and unfinished. Funny how PS5 seems to be the way to go these days. PC gamers getting a raw deal. It looks very much like the first game which I didn't hate but it does all look a bit silly and like a cheap Uncharted.
It's pretty wild that the devs are certainly more than aware that the game ain't ready, but it gets pushed out anyway. Something needs to change somewhere but I suppose the masses will just buy it regardless so why bother.
What a shit state. It's almost like the negative press will sell them more copies.
I’m having to play in fancy graphics mode because the performance mode seems to be broken on PS5. It stutters and introduces a screen tear to the top third of the screen every few seconds. I’ve VRR and all that stuff enabled. Faces are also lol, as ever.
The closer other devs get to ND the farther away they seem to be. Kinda uncanny valley stuff. Combat is fine but I’m not used to where stuff is mapped yet, it isn’t super intuitive.
I also think some well known critics play a part in the deception. How can PC Gamer review the game, mention how badly it performs and still give it an 8?? The whole fucking industry needs a good shake up. Waiting on patches after purchase needs to die and be buried deep. The first time you play a new game - that's the time a game makes an impression - you don't want it plagued with glitches and frame drops.
The fact we're all talking about whether a game runs well or not is the point. The game should be in a shippable state on whatever platform it's available on. What it really boils down to is hoodwinking the majority of the people that buy the game. The people that really make these fuckers money. Casuals. Star Wars fans. People that care are in the minority even with social media backing them up - it's a drop in the ocean. The money this new star wars game will make will more than make up for the negative steam reviews.
It just doesn't matter.
There's literally no excuse for selling a shit product though and it infuriates me.
Definitely still some of those performance issues.
Performance mode has screen tearing. Quality mode is generally a solid 30fps with little dips every now and again, normally with something nearby clearly triggering it.
I did have a crash which was where I stopped.
Other than that though I'm really enjoying it. It definitely builds heavily on the first game. Feels rare to have a sequel that is such a jump in scope in this day and age, everything seems so iterative now. I suppose Respawn have history in the Titanfall sequel, not saying it's that good of course.
The story has me intrigued and I'm enjoying the characters.
Turgle is my new favourite alien.
I’m trying really hard to not press X to whiz through whatever it is they’re talking about. There’s a very amusing bit near where I stopped, and still very early on, where an npc talks about getting back to their family. You’ll know what happens next and the reaction of my main man is just full on wtf lol they’re not doing this are they? It’s fucking hilarious that this shit gets through.
Backdrops look really lovely though.
Also plz don’t call your bit at the start HDR calibration and then just tell me to set it how I like it. This isn’t calibration, it’s just preference. That, weirdly, really annoyed me.
Light saber feels really great though, so there’s that.
Like the old game.
Different parts are dotted around the maps as exploration rewards. You can then mix and match those parts and change the blade colour. Then there are various different colours/shaders that can be applied and a wear level too.
All that goes for BD-1 as well.
The lightsaber can't really be seen all that much other than the blade in actual gameplay. BD-1 is very visible though.
Oh yeah stances too.
I think on higher difficulties or perhaps later in the game having the right stance is really going to matter. You pick two as a sort of loadout from the meditation sites (bonfires).
I finished the Xbox One version of the first one on Game Pass just before the Series X version came out. I was a bit disappointed by the technical performance, which was two steps forward and one step back (framerate wasn't consistent, IIRC). But I could sort of understand because it was a late in the day port.
Bit disappointing that the new one also sounds a bit technically rough even though it was next-gen only from the start.
