Streets of Rage 4 - The Grandest Upper - Out now!
  • 5 stages and wow, they've well and truly nailed the landing. It feels just right. Music started iffy but soon delivered in spades.

One minor thing - pls patch & upgrade weapon sfx, majorly lacking crunch and snap to it.

Otherwise.. It's back, baby. Streets Of Rage is back!

It's the slight delay on the punch connect that does it.
  • I'm two stages in on my first solo run and I see no reason not to declare this the greatest scrolling beat em up of all time.
  • Although (development artwork chat):
    Spoiler:

    Is there much competition?
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • Played up until you beat
    Spoiler:
just now with the two kids who were often bickering amongst themselves, hitting each other (in and out of game), and picking up chickens on full health. Good fun, but looking forward to solo play and co-op with a mate.
  • DF seal of approval on the Switch version

  • Single player is trickier than expected. I seem to be scraping through each stage by the skin of my teeth on normal. Just died on a boss who had one hit left in him. Seems to be a case for matching characters to specific stages perhaps.
  • I want this but it's a £10 for me, such is my life these days. I can wait.

    Ah, memories.

Thank god it's not just me. I was thinking I was utter garbage at this.
I want to see it through do a few stages I have just gone with the full extra lives and stars assist options.
A fair few I got through with just the default lives I was literally one Galcia punch from death.

This is the kinda thing I would move to be in on but I need to play the first three first. And I grew up on the Mega Drive!

  • Mega Drive Collection or Sega Classics SoR Trilogy. Do it.

Hard to say if people should play 4 before the others. There is a lot there for people who havent played the others, this is far above just nostalgia porn. That being said there are some bits to tickle your whistle if you have played the old ones.

If you think you have played this genre but havent played SoR you are wrong. These games really are the cream of the genre.
  • The first SoR is quite limited in comparison to the other two games in the MD trilogy. It’s tough to go back to.

It's easy to get battered quickly once you get caught. But the bosses are at least not too complicated - they mostly have 3 or 4 attacks to learn and once you have a strategy for each it's mainly only the added goons that stop things running smoothly.

What I'm really struggling with is trying to go for better scores and combos. The combo break feature, where you lose the whole thing if you take any hit, is really mean. In a busy fight there's always some little prick who sneaks a quick jab in. It's annoying you can't cancel out of a regular attack with a special if someone suddenly jumps in at you as well.

I think I might have to leave that side of things or risk, well, rage. Just playing through is more fun. I've started a game on Hardest and done the first 2 levels. We'll see how that goes.
  • I hope this does well enough for some DLC.
A 3 or 4 stage long side story would be fun. It is itching for alternate costumes and playable bosses as well.

Ooh! I just checked and I do have the 3D version of the first one, which I must have bought on sale a while ago and not played. Perfect alignment of my MD and 3DS fanboyism.

  • Fuck it I'll buy at the weekend.
  • Bloody knife Galsias.
30 years of hurt from them.

Imagine if our knife crime epidemic was the cause of people walking around like that.

Me and wookie just powered through 7 levels in co op and it was fuckin glorious.
  • Downloaded it to my pc but its not working. I got the start-up screen and then after about 10 seconds it crashes.

Not sure what could be causing it, but looks like I'll have to go for the xbox version

  • How can this take 30mins to download
  • I just waltzed through a stage with Adam after failing miserably with Floyd. I like this a lot, but I wouldn't fancy hard mode myself.

That was absolutely brilliant fun. Thanks Reg
Not everything is The Best or Shit. Theres many levels between that, lets just enjoy stuff.

I really like Floyd but him and Cherry are the extreme ends of the scales on stats, there are definitely levels to use them and levels to not.
  • Yep. They could well be the ultimate co-op partnership though.
  • Not sure about metal arms. Seems like a right dick.
  • He plays well but his design is strangely generic.
There are 3 other pop culture characters with muscle metal arms. Jax, Colossus (X men) and Cyborg (justice league). All meat heads, all but Collusus are black guys that some old dude did experiments on.
