Will have a look at that. I love Blood Bowl but haven't owned a copy since I stupidly got rid of my polystyrene board version when I was 17/18. Thought i was over GW stuff and was more interested in drinking.

New version looks lovely and shiny though. I've asked Santa for it, and ordered the Skaven and Season One book myself.

No doubt I'll be tempted by more teams and star players and between that, Imperial Assault and Armada I'll eventually have to get an evening job, paper round and sell some organs.

I've actually heard of double skulls podcast, that's neat. I'm a big Blood Bowl fan. Will definitely be getting back into the GW game, I spent a lot of time playing the community-curated version. I want to play BB2 on my Xbox One, too, but £40 feels a bit steep.

Ironically, I'll probably blow way more than £40 on the new miniatures game.

Skaven will be my first new team, I reckon. The very definition of glass cannons. Though I'll probably get back into the swing of things with a nice generic Human team. Time to dig out my Middenheim Mariners again...

Blood Bowl ordered , plus the Season One book. I'll grab the Skaven team probably too but I'll get the Orcs and Humans painted up first. I notice Nurgle are in the season one so hopefully the minis won't be far behind. Well excited to be getting back into it, it's been years.

Still have my Undead team from way back that I can use when they release those rules. Although I'll no doubt be tempted by new minis too....

Cool, I need to have a listen to the podcast. I'll get it downloaded, and some more of Revs too.

Apparently Dwarves are coming a week or two into December. I need to get my painting, erm, boots on.

  • Dropped some heavy hints towards a copy of Blood Bowl to my grandparents (like actually mailed them the store page) and I have got my pals interested in the idea of buying teams and playing a league. Frantic, what paints do you use? The GW site seems to suggest something like £72 for a complete set of paints for one team - what to heck?!

I have GW ones that I've bought over the last 3-4 years. Got a decent selection now, but I'll still get more. Shop near me does 6 for £10 which isn't too bad.
  • I really fancy a bit of a painting session for the first time in over a decade, and BB and Space Hulk seem a good start, but it's such a prohibitively priced hobby. Still, hope I get lucky for Christmas!

If you can paint, i.e. Have done a bit of art in the past you can actually use ANY standard acrylics. Cheap ones work fine, I've done loads with them.
YOU WILL NEED TO PRIME THE FIGURES FIRST, get spray model primer (games workshop, tamiya etc...), A neutral grey colour is the all round use one of you just want to buy one.
The one thing you will need to buy is a wash. You can buy lots of different coloured ones but the black is the most useful 'darkshade' or something,i can't remember what's it's called right now. I'll look it up.

GW going for your wallet's jugular once again. They're probably recommending at least four paints per texture/colour, though. (Base coat, wash, highlight, extreme highlight.) You could probably get something almost as good with two or three stages, skipping the wash or one or both of the highlights.

As for other paint ranges, I can't recommend anything as I've been a bit unadventurous and stuck with GW stuff. Though I do recommend the Army Painter sprays for your under coats. Much cheaper than GW, dries really quick, and goes on smooth.

    Excellent. th?id=OIP.M5cc034e10be46369be8e163b7cada9b3H0&pid=15.1

Easy way to blag human skin (at least, Caucasian) using GW paints: Kislev Flesh -> Seraphim Sepia -> Kislev Flesh (dry brush). Snorted.

  • Just had a bit of a pang of regret over Space Hulk too, fucker never fits on my table, never gets played and has some utterly nightmarish scenarios that make short work of certain sides. Still, conceptually its great and it certainly looks the part.

I'm finding I'm using less inks now and trying to shade instead, but they're still really handy. A few years ago I was drowning my models in it, now I'm using it more selectively. Still got a long way to go though, but it's something I'll definitely stick with.

My painting gear after a few years at it:

I'd recommend using Nuln Oil only on your "hard" surfaces like the model's armour. For soft textures, something like Reikland Fleshshade or Seraphim Sepia will work better, IMHO.

Actually, it's hard to go wrong with Seraphim Sepia regardless of surface.
