Apparently the rules are the same, but no idea if stuff like Death rollers etc will appear. I assume so.

You could use the 6th Ed community rules to play Undead until the new "official" rules turn up. I've put the PDF rulebook on my OneDrive, link below, if you want it.

Aye, got those already thanks. I'm in no rush, plenty of painting to be getting on with.

I think the new models might be slightly larger, as with most modern minis these days, so they might not even fit in. We'll see. Be nice if I can buy the new undead team and mix a few old school ones in. I love the Wights.

But....have you seen the new Dwarves? The helmets are gorgeous. Miles nicer than the old models.

No, only seen the Humans and Skaven so far. Both are top.

Size shouldn't matter so much, as in BB you're just marking a square, rather than having true line of sight a la 40K.

Trollslayer in mid air is insanely awesome.
  • Really not a great time to have no money.
  • I might be in on this as well. Me and Tempy could meet up.

  • Board game peoples, can you recommend me a great game (board or cards) that I can buy the kids for Christmas? Ideally something that the whole family can play.

Was looking at 'Exploding Kittens' - anyone know if it's any cop?

How old are your lads again?

I'd say Cube Quest, Loony Quest or Smash Up!

My nieces and nephews are between 6 and 10 and love Cube Quest, Rhino Hero and Sushi Go.
  • Looney Quest is really good. It's a path drawing where you draw on a clear sheet to draw a safe path you can see in front of you. You then put the sheet on top to see how much you screwed up.

    How old are your children?

Ticket to ride is phenomenal and there's a kids version but I'd stick with the normal one.

    Cube quest is also decent.

I just bought Karuba which is about putting map tiles on a board to make a man move a between two points. It's quite Uninteractive but it also means nobody can be a dick to another person.

  • Games we play/ have played with our kids...

    For little kids:

Shadows in the Woods - Age 5 and up but for reasons that will become obvious, needs an adult.  In many ways, this isn't a technically very great game, but it's absolutely beloved in our household, and still gets wheeled out every Christmas despite our kids being significantly older.  The kids basically form a team in which they help their dwarves hide within a little cardboard forest.  The adult then controls a candle which they move around the paths in the forest itself.  On their turn dwarves can move freely in shadows, and their aim is to bunch together under one tree.  But they can't cross any patches of light.  The candle can therefore freeze them in patches of light, with the aim of catching them all.
So, like I say, technically not that amazing.  But the effect of the game is that your children get to sit in the dark scheming about how to defeat their parent, with only the one flickering candle.  The game's kind of crap, but the effect is none the less magical.

Mousie Mousie - A really old game and one that's deeply unsophisticated, stocking filler stuff, but that is generally really liked by small children.  It's basically a reflex game.  You all have little mice, you roll a dice, and depending on the outcome you have to pull them away before someone slams the cup on top of them.  That's it.  Kids love it.

Loonacy - Glorified Snap for up to 5 players.  I hate it, absolutely everyone else seems to think it's amazing.

    For older kids:

Forbidden Island - Almost a gateway drug for "proper" boardgames, and co-operative to boot, so perfect if (like me) some of your kids are bad losers.  You have to race to get various treasures off a sinking island.  Nice and easy on the easiest setting.  Suitably evil on the hardest.  If they like this, move them onto Pandemic a year or so later...

Castle Panic - Sort of a board based Castle Defence game.  Another co-operative one, in which you defend from multiple waves of monsters.  We actually have Munchkin Panic, which fuses this with card based dungeon game Munchkin, and thus introduces a competitive element as well.  (No-one wins anything if the castle falls, but if you successfully defend, then the one who nabbed the most treasure wins.)

Hanabi - Another co-operative game, this one card based, in which you have to arrange firework themed cards into order - the problem being that you can't look at your own cards.

Escape:  Curse of the Temple - And again co-operative (a theme has developed).  Indiana Jones themed Dice rolling game, where you have to escape from a temple before your timer runs out.  It's one of those ones with a CD that provides a timer, and some specific events during the game.  The time limit's quite effective, not just as it tends to get the kids' adrenaline going, but because it generally means you don't get the "One person takes charge" problem that you get in a lot of co-op games.

    And for teenage:

Codenames - remains my favourite game to play with "people who don't play boardgames".  Pretty easy to explain, pretty easy to play, deviously clever in its construction.  The only issue is that players need to be old enough to have a decent vocabulary, as the game hinges on your ability to find connecting themes around words.  The game was quite hard to get hold of this time last year, now it's bloody everywhere.

Models are even more stunning irl. Some awesome poses. They've thought about the joints of the models too, barely any seams. Top notch.

  • Nicely Frantic.

Talking of minis, Kingdom Death is getting a 1.5 update edition, has raised over $3million in under 24hrs on Kickstarter, is estimated to ship in 2020. Eyewatering madness.
