Do Boardgames Dream of Miniature Porn?
  • Man, the speed you paint at is crazy - I'm properly jealous of how much you're able to work through. I'm STILL not finished on my terminator squad, but I think I only need to finish highlighting the heads, stick on the transfers and do a bit of weathering (plus paint the base rims either brown or black, not decided yet).

    That's a very pretty/rotten greater daemon.

Verminlords look great, but agreed on the point around the surrounding models. I feel like the big models work best when they've got smaller miniatures around them.
  • I am now somewhat addicted to watching painting vids on the Youtube and it's all your faults.
  • They’re very nice to watch and very calming, but I rarely put them on cos when I follow them I have to follow them and they can feel restrictive.

@voices - very kind of you, but terminators would take me forever as well. Trim is a total nightmare to do and why I’ve shelved my Obliterators for a while. I was in a rush for an event, so it was mostly contrast paints mixed and thinned, with shades for the deepest recesses and dry brushing flattened with further layers of glaze. You can get the whole flesh area of a GUO up to a fairly decent standard in a few hours, because there is no need to be neat at all. Metal and armour needs uniformity and that’s harder to achieve.

At the weekend event I ended up losing all my games, but having fun. Rotigus whiffed everything he did, because it was his first outing and that’s the curse of a new model on the table.

I ended up walking away from the store with Start Collecting Beastmen, the Underworlds Beastmen Band, their battletome, endless spells and terrain, piece as well as a Tzaangor Shaman and a unit of Tzaangor Enlightened, for just shy of £150, which i covered with my tips and my pal paying me his half of the hotel coverage.

So New Big Monsters are in my future, specifically the Keeper of Secrets and Lord of Change!

That shot has given me an idea of scale which I haven't had. Being able to work at detail at that scale is simply beyond my comprehension and co-ordinative abilities.

My eyes are fucked now - they used to be superb. And I suffer from a hand tremor whenever I try and do anything on a small scale. Always have. Very annoying. I think it may be to do with tensing up too much. Looking forward to having a go at some soldering on my modded Atari 2600..,...
Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.
  • Even the big ones are miniature. That’s why surrounding them by small ones helps them look better - it sets the scale of something 20ft high if it’s standing next to a (presumably) man sized thing.
  • I always get inspired by T's posts and then remember -

    a) I'm shit at painting.
    b) I have no time to paint.
    c) I have nobody to play with.
  • Even still...

I just can't pick a solid group I like. Fyreslayers appeal to my history with dwarves but the model range just seems so limited.
  • Calling these boys done.

  • They’re delightful Voices, dig the subtle bases too.

Was flicking through various lists I wanted to build for AoS and realised that they have properly opened the door for Big Model Shenanigns with Keeper of Secrets and Lord of Change (the latter being more viable) but also, fuck, Verminlord Corruptors are really good and slot right into my Maggotkin army without the need for pure hunners of rats, oh shit!
  • Ah... the (possibly leaked) new CSM start collecting box has everything I wanted in it, so that's going to be added to my 'to do' pile shortly.

I have a plan to use masking paint and an (as at yet not purchased) airbrush to deal with the trim, otherwise I'm in for a world of painting pain. Plan is to paint the gold, then mask said trim and airbrush the black and zenithal highlights.
  • It’s not a leak it’s just on the warhammer community site. It’s the Chaos half of the Shadowspear box which is a good (if monopose) set. Paging Doc Rouj
  • Ah, I thought it was the standard 10 man CSM pack, which looks slightly different. I'm still pretty tempted.
  • What do you make of the Ossiarch models, Tempy?
  • Bonedaddies? They look grand. Swinging wildly between ridiculous and imposing like all the best warhammer stuff should. They’d take a contrast/drybrush paint job like a dream.

Some their rules are a bit bonkers, their terrain piece is really nice, plus it’s a change to have a proper elite death army in design rather than by coincidence.

Katakros is an utterly wild sculpt and will win Golden Daemon.
  • You're not wrong. I don't particularly like the base soldiers, but just look at this Legend.

Will definitely get on it at some point, it’s kinda wonky but probably looks alright.
    Dang you lads can paint!!

    Thank

  • Browsing the GW site and I can see that the Titanicus grand master edition is in stock (it wasn't when I last looked). £180 is a lot of money, but it's really tempting.

I've got to convince myself that I won't play it, just like I don't play Necromunda.

Mutants and Death Ray Guns. Tenner for the rules, and 30-50p per 15mm mini. Can use giant robots in it.

    Sorted.

I've got about 15 Warbands for less than the price of a 28mm GW arm.

It’s a rubbish deal IMO, you’re better off getting the Rules and the Battleforce, which is a fully serviceable Maniple with optional weapons. The Grand Master box commits the cardinal sin of being Ok value for the contents but utterly balls to play with - a hit from a Warlord with a Belicosa Cannon will fully delete a Banner of Knights in one shot, so you end up just having two warlords shooting at each other which is boring. Game comes alive in the middle scale with Reavers and Warhounds.

Ignore Franny, he might have 15 warband about they’re not as fun as one Titan.

Howdy, Stranger!
