I'm not sure what it is but I know it makes a difference. If they weren't coming out every year I know it wouldn't matter as much but playing an old one just feels dated. It's like reading a week-old newspaper. Charge £5 month and you have everyone paying the full £60. In return they keep squads up to date and add in the odd feature.
Do it as a free app that requires an EA login with payments done through that so they can bypass MS and Sony's cuts.
