Thought it was ok but I was getting bored towards the end of the episode to be honest.

Don't like Dr Who. His fucking face man. Princess had that weird piggy toff look about her too, snorts when she laughs etc. Reminds me of that awful thing Bohnson married. Ifans was good.

The tourney was a bit odd. I get there's no war on to thin the ranks of knights etc but fighting to the death is permitted? No in fighting between the great houses stemming from any of that? Weird.

I'm not interested in anybody at all at this stage, and there doesn't seem to be anything interesting going on in the world either. Some pirates getting killed? Succession debates? I'm sure GoT started off much better

The tourney did seem a bit OTT, but it was pretty deliberately contrasted with the birth scene. The low bar for being made a knight would mean there were plenty of people who could die without it being a big deal, scores could be settled at a tourney as well. Depends on who dies really.

I think there was something of an overemphasis on how the other houses mattered less, really hit it home for the slower audience members to understand this is a different time. Particularly as one of the losers was Baratheon I believe. Had the stag on yellow just not crowned.

Similar to the very start where the houses were pledging and a fat guy with Seen Been's mouth pledged for the Starks.

I like Paddy Considine but I'm not keen on him in this so far. Quite enjoyed the episode though, Matt Smith's ridiculous showboating was amusing.

I agree about Considine, I don't think he was great at all. But I dont expect him to last long. Definitely incesty vibes with Dr Who and Peppa. Which is surely where that is leading.
I know it's early but I don't have any strong instantly likeable characters like we got in GOT. No John Snow, no Sean Bean etc. Looking back that cast was superb.
I did like the Hand and his daughter and Dr Who of course and his strutting.

There's a Stark on the council isn't there? Fella with the black hair and beard? Two of the Baratheons lost, yeah. Still found it odd that knights are topping each other.

On the incest thing, that's a dead cert with the Targaryens isn't it? Weren't they all a bit inbred to keep the bloodline pure? The king and his queen both sporting the white locks can't be a coincidence either

According to imdb the character's name is Corlys Valeryan of I presume House Valeryan?
If I recall from the og series Valerya was somewhere in the south and succumbed to some kind of ghastly plague? Some kind of skin disease.
