  • Happy for a year of not-sydney, not-hawthorn, not-geelong (sorry skerret), not-west coast.

If this season was as close as it was made out to be, its nice to see two long time absentee finalists in the last game.

Was at the Rich GWS game and the noise was frankly ridiculous, there should be an inquiry.

Got to watch SJ walk off the ground for the final time, he was pretty distraught I think. Managed to clip Rance in the face which was probably his only meaningful act of the night and was very entertaining. Selwood is the only remaining 2007 premiership player I think.

Also given both grand finalists crushed Geelong I hope they keep drawing at the end of extra time until their bones are reduced to ash.

  • They axed gf replays did they? After 2010?
"Sometimes it's better to light a flamethrower than curse the darkness." ― Terry Pratchett
  • Did they? I know it was a big discussion, but I thought they only changed other finals after weagles colling in 90.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • I'm pretty sure youre right on other finals. I now know I'm also right on grand finals, they changed it ~2011/12.

Attica is great, on a par with Ezard for me, but my all time fave is still Vue de Monde
  • Man, you've hit some eateries.

That's the first of those super crazy restaurants I've ever hit.

Obviously the shtick around fine dining and plating etc can be easy to make fun of, but holy hell. This was 19 courses and the smallest mouthful would knock you for 6.

Having watched the chef's table ep, it was nice to place the quality and flavour and experience with the show.

Legit uniquely Australian menu and experience too.

Ben is major supporter of helping hoops too, and the most mellow awesome dude, which makes it doubly cool.

A lazy 4 month wait list for a table, btw.

We do a nice place once a year for the wedding anniversary

Went to Supernormal the other week (actually the new canteen spinoff in St Kilda but the menu is the same) - great modern Japanese style food, and the szechuan pickles are legit in the top 5 things I have ever eaten
  • Nice. I'm gonna bump the Cinty in Melbourne thread and you can weigh in.

Supernormal got a few shouts in the Oz thread, I rate it.  The beef cheek is tops and banh mi is tops.

Attica is on my list and done VdM a few times, never less than exceptional.  Event dining.

I've been working on my Australian in preparation for my arrival.

Stuff like "G'day me ol' rooter, how about we pop open a tinny and give a gander to some footy on the telebox?".

    How's that?

I'm not sure what goes on in this thread but I'll put this here in case anyone can help. Can post in the Ask thread if you don't want derailing (of whatever is going on) here.

@Australians, particularly Sydneysiders, a friend of mine and some of his friends are heading to Australia over Christmas and are looking to rent an apartment in Sydney for 3 couples for 3 nights. Prices seems prohibitive but I guess that's normal. Staying smack bang in the centre seems out of the question. So the question is what would be a good area to stay in that's reasonably near to the centre, not to far from the beach, not full of junkies and crooks etc? They were looking at an area called Hurstville, but have no idea what it's like. The owner of the apartment wanted two and a half grand transferred immediately to his bank account, which seems a bit dodgy. Any ideas?

    Bah.
  • Recently went to Sydney and stayed in Woollahra which is a lovely suburb. It's a short uber ride to both the beach and the city or I think there's trains as well.

Otherwise I'm not much help. To be honest the CBD is pretty shit in Sydney so I'd suggest looking into the close suburbs that have the things they want to see. Near Bondi. Near the side of the city that has the ferries to Manly. Casino side. Etc.
