All tings GRiD inc. GRiD2 & GRiD Autosport
  • Is it just me, or are the cars performance figures all over the shop. I bought the Alfa 4C and tuned it up to Tier 2. Yet tuned Giuliettas are leaving me for dead. I don't know if anyone told Codies, but they have the exact same engine, yet the 4C weighs 500kg LESS than the Giulietta. Go figure!

The online is truly borked at the moment. It's supposed to rate you on crashing and then put you with people with a similar rating. The problem with that is if someone crashes into you deliberately, you both get an increased impact rating. So you get lumbered with more morons with higher ratings who crash into you on purpose, so you get a higher rating....repeat until you give up in disgust. And the corner cutting penalty is ridiculously inconsistent as well. Perfect example is the Red Bull Ring where the second corner hairpin is so easy to get caught out on and get bogged down, yet after the next corner, you can effectively cut right across the grass and miss the long left hander and no penalty....which is being exploited by everyone now.

Bug of the week, however, goes to a brilliant sound quirk. After last night's patch, everytime you go past a gantry or pillar that's supposed to make a whooshy noise, you now get a car engine noise instead. It's hilariously funny on Chicago under the train line where it sounds like your being passed by an entirely different invisible race grid.
  • I'll likely come across as biased, considering my love for the original, but I've genuinely not come across any issues with this game at all - save for the hilarious new sound bug Ali mentioned.

The online has been smooth as silk, the AI hasn't been overly aggressive (except for the Overtake trucks, oddly enough), the handling model has been fine (there's absolutely no drifting in a FWD car and only four wheel drifts in 4WD cars, in my experience) and it's definitely fast becoming my favourite racer.

I've played a ridiculous amount of the game since Friday.
  • Online is smooth if you're careful with who you connect to, agreed, but the whole impact rating business needs to be seriously altered. It really peeves me when people crash into everyone on purpose and you all suffer for it in your rating. If they can't do it properly, they should just drop it. The Ai isn't so much aggressive as a bit blind. You get the sense that a bit more CPU time has gone on the pretty backgrounds at the expense of the first GRID's better AI.

Online is all about surviving the first few corners, getting in front and staying there. If you get stuck mid pack, you're scuppered.
  • The Impact Rating system seemed okay for me until today. A couple of cars crashed ahead of me and I had absolutely no way to avoid it, resulting in my rating going from green down to yellow. Seems like it needs tweaking to allow for these things.

Won't work for me now, the disk is buggered. Is there anything I can do without the receipt?
  • Yeah just take it back and get it replaced! Did you not know this?

You don't have to have the receipt, did you buy it from somewhere that keeps track on a store card? If not take a print out of your bank statement showing the purchase.

OK, I'll give it a go. It hasn't even been out of the machine since I bought it and it didn't stop working until the patch was installed.
  • My copy keeps crashing. I've given up trying to enjoy it. Won't be going back but I'm sure they'll patch it unless it's my 360. Either way, not arsed in the slightest.
  • The online is laughably bad.

As is Codies decision to impliment a penalty for cutting the corner but nothing for running wide which is hilarious when it's the fastest line as people don't have to slow down.. you get given one car.. but in the matches I ran in people where using what ever they wanted. You can also see how bad the handling model is because you can actually see people putting in different steering inputs so the cars turn in little jumps.

The rest of the game continues to be laughably bad too.

Clipped an apex yesterday and ended up missing the enterance of a tunnel VERTICALLY.. the car bounded up in to the air and crashed into the wall ABOVE the tunnel enterance..

The game crashed during events. No problem. I'll reload.. only it's saved the crash so hangs in exactly the same place..

    I could go on.

I'd go as far as saying Codemasters deserve to go under for selling lazy shit like this.

  • Watch Dubai's central reservations. They're designed specifically to launch you into the air like the Dukes of Hazzard which does your impact rating no good at all. I also had the joy of having my car totalled in the first corner of a 5 lap race. Everyone piles into the corner and, being put mid grid, i had no choice but to try and avoid teh carnage. Sure enough, some idiot in a Golf R (it's always a Golf R on Tier 1 and 2) rams me and spins me round, only for the rest of the pack to completely obliterate me. Didn't know you could have your car totalled and have to sit out a race. Do now.
  • The most annoying thing was having my impact rating affected by hitting the wall in a drift event when I over drifted.. thanks for that.

  • This thread is dire reading for a racing game from a company that specialises in racing games.
  • It's a travesty of poor play testing.

  • Well, I've learned something new. The way Codies explained the Impact Ratings, it was only supposed to be affected by hitting other drivers, yet you guys are telling me it's also when hitting walls?

I'm still loving the game but that's definitely something that needs clarifying/fixing.

Walls definitely have an affect. I had a race on the Japanese mountain track where I was just getting used to the RX7 and hit off a good number of hairpins but was too far behind to hit or be hit, yet my impact rating went up. I don't think the code is remotely capable of making these decisions and it should be dropped as a result.

It's a travesty of too many graphical effects being added and  resulting in the once commendable physics and AI being dumbed down for the lowest common denominator on a generation that can't really cope with it.

Do you think we can persuade them to switch on the original GRiD PS3 servers seeing as everyone is moaning about this?
  • To be honest, I'm expecting the races to become a little less..."first corner meltdown" over the next few weeks, as people either begin learning the handling model or leave to return to whichever game they usually play.

If not, I'll be happy to stay racing with my friends, the same way we've been enjoying Grid on 360 for a good long while.
  • The writing was on the wall the minute they said no cockpit cam, shortcuts all round.

Errrm, I wouldn't bother to be honest.
  • It's a brilliant racer, but more of an arcade experience than anything else.
  • It has it's moments, but it's a league or two below the original from 5 years ago.
  • I am absolutely hooked to this game! The online is one of the best I've played.  It's nice to easily be able to party up with friends before searching for races.  The car handling in the game is incredibly fun and improved, sitting somewhere between Ridge Racer and Forza... it's all about getting the right car for the right track stopping people from always choosing the same car every round.  There are a lot of of shit people who are all over the place adding to hilarity (and pretty much guaranteeing that anyone with slight driving skills will finish in the top 4), and the courses and game types are really nice and varied.

I've just read over peoples comments here, and see most people don't like it lol.  I loved the original, so am probably biased... and I mainly play arcade racers over sims.  Everyones complaints I haven't had or found.  A.I is smarter than before, handling is greatly improved and varied from the previous and the courses are satisfying.

I'm online whenever possible racing if anyone wants to join in.  I seem to have a constant party of 4 friends, so the more the merrier... a couple of us are pretty solid at racers so it'll be nice to have a bit of competition as most people online are a bit shit ;)

  • I'm glad your enjoying it. I too enjoyed the original. This is a lot worse.
    The Forum Herald™
  • Not at all,it has loads more variation and depth... the handling is much much better (each car class has 3 distinct styles where as before the car class defined the handling), AI is a lot less rubber bandy and are lot less "pre-programmed" compared to the original making them harder to predict (outside of the "best at the course" guy, the online set up has depth and a ladder to climb, in the previous I just simply raced Touring cars as everything else was too twitchy vs latency... now players rarely lag and every car class is great fun.

All the complaints I've seen you make are basically down to the fact you crash too much.

The fact that it's back down to 23 quid on steam already tells a tale, methinks.

Still not had chance for a proper crack at it for a few days. It was going up in my estimation during my last bash but just because being repeatedly kicked in the bollocks is preferable to having them cut off, it doesn't make either a pleasurable experience.

    Still reserving judgement.

  • The PC version looks stunning. Diving into multiplayer this weekend.
  • If you get the right lobby, it's fun, but that's rare. Most lobbies are full of people that think they're playing Destrucrion Derby. Even when you find a lobby of people wanting to race, you can come across the BF3 problem of being kicked if you keep winning!

I agree with you on the courses. They look fantastic and the city courses are very PGR, while the A to B tracks evoke the original NFS brilliantly. It's a shame there are so few actual circuits though. I worry that those are being held back for DLC to further fragment the online community.
