The overheard thread

And that is relevent how? Unless you were trying to out yourself as a total cum funnel, in which case mission accomplished.

  • Hanna Montana? That's how I knew I was gay because of that cunt.

    On the bus just now.
  • On holiday I overheard various Americans whilst on public transport, queuing for museums, in cafés etc

They were all irredeemably awful. Chatting the worst shit, and so loudly too. The second embarrassing group were the 'KowAdviceKrus' of teenage Brits vomiting outside Bulldog or saying things like "we should totally put 'hashtag hash bagged' on our statuses yeah!"

Everything else was blissful, impenetrable Dutch, French and German. Didn't understand a word and loved it.

Relevant to what?  I didn't record it, but myself and a gaggle of cum-funnel colleagues did accidentally laugh at it against our better judgement.  Good on you for knowing it's not funny though; the moral high ground is yours.

    Legendary.

    My most recent head/desk interaction:

Lad: "No, you see, the Earth's axis is tilted, so as it orbits the sun, different parts of the world are tilted toward or away from it. This is why we have seasons."
    Girl: "Oh! That makes sense."

At the time I was in the university library. These people, my friends, are the future of humanity.

These were undergrads. I'm pretty sure we were taught about the seasons in middle school.

    Thank fuck for that.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of undergrads didn't know why we have seasons.
  • The gf's Mum wasn't quite sure, and she's a GP. I wrote a rambling letter to The Guardian on the subject after consuming two bottles of wine, and was only mildly surprised when it got printed.

How many people know how a fridge works? Or why there are two tides a day? Basic lack of scientific knowledge is deeply worrying. There's an ever increasing gap between what politicians know and what scientists do. This cannot be a good thing.
  • When it rains the sea get deep - High tide. It then evaporates - Low tide. On average it rains twice a day on Earth.
  • I remember when I was discussing Pink Floyd with a friend who happens to be a physics teacher. He teaches up to A level. He was aware that the dark side of the moon isn't actually dark, but he did think it a remarkable coincidence that the Moon's rotational period was the same as the Earth's. Unfuckingbelievable.

Part of the reluctance of not getting a new fridge is wanting to fix it. Or phone someone who'll do it properly.

I should've amassed an array of tools, lubes and cylinders of stuff at my age.

Went to a mates the other day. He's got a small shed, it's more shed than I've got though.

I have 3 or 4 screwdrivers. And a spanner that doesn't appear to fit anything.
  • Fridge's are complicated and stuff although I basically know how it works and it's quite fantasticaly cool. I need a book that just goes over lots of 'stuff' about science, about how regular things work as I used to be into that as a kid and then grew up an idiot.

The Horrible History books did a good division of science based stuff, I basically want the adult version of that because it managed to be full of great anecdotes and little quirky facts as well as having cartoons in for my kid brain. I still like cartoons though, maybe they're still good?

Even I know that much. And I know apostrophes.

Anyway, most scientists probably don't how politics works, so whatever. The problem is there's just too much shit nowadays and everyone is expected to really specialise.
  • Seasons thing is pretty harsh.

I'm sure I could list 100 things we "should" know and there would be something on there each and every one of us doesn't know.

Storing that one away for future mischief, wonder if I can catch anyone out.
