Ta. Will have a gander. I'm kinda doing 2d shizzle atm so simpler than that screeny! Have got as far as polygon generation and rotation and collision detection so basically Super Hexagon huzzah. Need to stick about till it's fun though really...
Little bit more dicking about. Got me some stars and stuff flying around. Need some concept of levels, and success, really. But then that means a level editor and menus and shit. Guess I'll crack out some YAML or something, that's the bit of things I nearly always hardcode into a game and then regret later!
Damn....Ive been meaning to get back on Unity as well lately. Really want to get my Blame! tunnel generator working.
But I gotta transfer windows to the SSD before I do.
Running up against a thing that used to work though which ain't any more. Imported a Unity package with some C# code, and I can't reference that code from my script (with "using YamlDotNet;" at the top of one of my files).
Dunno whether that's me goofing something, or some package import step I need, or a version change, or a bug in the 2020 beta I'm using, or some VScode nonsense. But it's been so long I'm struggling to work our how to eliminate each of those options lol.
You can now win and lose, and there are levels you can click between, with level stuff read from disk. Needs some more richness in levels, and tuning in progression, and a menu system, and then it'll be an actual game - just one that looks shite! But then I might have a bit of fun trying to learn about 2D effects and stuff, we'll see.
A gif gallery from the super smart Bad North guy on his town generator. I love it when he does these and shows his steps. This one isn't as in depth as his others but it's still cool
I'm super proud of myself. After well over a year and half sitting idle in my laptop, I cloned windows across to my ssd. Really makes a big difference. I've got Unity reinstalled. Looking forward to giving it a crack
nope. sorry. it does look quite nice but i'm not sure i have the mental capacity to learn another dev environment. although saying that i think i've almost forgotten everything about unity now!
I was actually thinking about trying some coding again. Had a week off and though I’d flick between TLoU2 and some reading / refreshing as I’ve been out of things for... erm... decades! Turns out TLoU2 needed so much fucking time.
May look into a simple easy to use tool like Stencyl or something.
GameMaker 2? Unity does 2D well too I hear. And Godot seems to be rated well.
I've coded a trial game using Blitz Plus - many years ago now. I really want to get into coding a game - I have few ideas I'd like to get on with.
The choice is bewildering. I liked Blitz because it isn't a framework - just you, code , libraries and 2 buffers. Being old school I've always preferred it that way.
I don't want to pick a framework only for it fall out of favour. I can't be arsed learning how to walk over and over again any more. In my job as a coder I have gone from green screen to client server to web with variations in between....it's frustrating and a total waste of time learning how to do basic stuff over and over again - especially when there is no benefit to it.
I've started making some stuff in Unity again. A disc golf game in the vein of 2d mario golf. I'm just trying to do a proof of concept for disc flight and seeing if I can get that to be good without having to simulate aerodynamics. Fun to do some thinking again though.
Yeah I've seen a little of it there. It's also an Easter egg in NBA 2k20 which means someone on the dev team must be a fan.
A lot of those games don't seem to try and do the different types of flights you can get with different discs. That's what I'd like to try for. Will be hard though
Trying to learn pico8 with my son. Just followed a tutorial and have got this far. Managed to add sound to jumps and sliding. Really don't understand the collision detection boxes. But next up is drawing a ninja star sprite and having the ninja shoot it.
The next generation doesn't start until MAG comes out.
Latest Unity release now has the dark theme for peasants. Sold. I'm back in the zone also after TLOU2. Thinking of doing a 2d hyper violent pixel shooter. Made a prototype before called Junkshot. So much blood and gibs.
