  • i quite liked that sleeping dogs was a bit more 'focused'.  it wasn't perfect, but i prob progressed more in that than i do in the likes of GTA, as i find them too open.  when there's too much to do and too much choice, i tend to get caught up in not wanting to miss anything, i then get nowhere and quickly bored.  I know you can choose to ignore all that stuff, i just find that hard to do, or to decide which flashing icons will be a benefit to chase, and which cries for help to ignore.  I always wish these 'open world' games had a linear option where it will just say 'go here, do this' and then when it's all done then you can piss about at your leisure.
also if you liked Batman Arkham Asylum you'll love the combat in shadow of mordor....it's basically the same except you have a sword too so you chop their heads off at the end instead of 'stunning' everyone.
"Like i said, context is missing."

Playing some Borderlands 2, Zelda and GW2 at the moment. Never played a Borderlands game, the writing is fantastic. Playing GW2 because I'm still missing the gold old MMO days.

About 45 hours into Zelda and I feel like I've done fuck all. Keep getting side tracked by pretty things.
  • I'm playing metro, as mentioned, I'm also playing buy games even though you have plenty of unfinished games.

Kona, superhot and sheltered picked up.
I'm still great and you still love it.

Guilty as charged. I mean like I said, I'm still only 40 odd hours into Zelda (and I say only because I've seen some of you on here have 100+ hours on it) but I still felt the need to spend money on another monstrous game over the weekend (Borderlands 2) - I dunno what's wrong with me. My completion to purchase ratio is shocking these past few years.

I blame Muzzy, he's a bad influence on us all.

  • It really works.

I've just started Persona 5, which is as good as expected.

Was nearing the end of Final Fantasy VII as well before that arrived.

Also still have Deus Ex to play, but haven't really felt like it yet.

And that's it. Completed everything else I own.
  • I've been to Hong Kong a lot. The best thing about Sleeping Dogs was the sound the pedestrian crossings make.

I'm not joking, I've bought so many new games recently (far more than I ever have) and every time I buy one I take pleasure in the fact that he can't.

I might buy myself a copy of Zelda for the Switch just to do a stress test on the cartridge.
  • Currently having a bit of a 360 revival through the Xbox one at the moment. Darksiders is still excellent and I had completely forgotten about Mark Hamill's work on it. I also picked up The Stick of Truth as it originally passed me by. I am really enjoying it, the game is quite simple and the combat basic but it has kept me smiling!

  • I haven't started Sleeping Dogs yet, but I have played a bit of Battlefield 1.  Even dipped into the online mode against randoms, something I haven't bothered with for years.  I wasn't even last on most of the matches.

I do enjoy bolt action rifle FPSs.  I might even buy the next COD now that it's back.
  • 36% through the story in Sleeping Dogs.  Just got a handgun, which amusingly seems less powerful than fists.  It's fun.  If I keep this up I'll have to move open world games from my most hated column to the favourites.  I like the fact that any mission seems more of less round the corner, plus the combat is fine (slightly sub Max/Mordor/Bats so far, but fine).  I'm already more taken with it than Horizon: Zero Dawn.  Haven't worked out why my character sometimes appears to lose all motor functions in brawls yet though, it feels a bit like I keep depleting a stamina bar that doesn't seem to exist.
  • I loved the shoulder barge move you can do with vehicles. It makes no sense but is fun.
  • It's so much easier to smash pursuing police cars out the game than to outrun them, so I've been using that quite a bit.  Yakuza 0 next, the big one.  SD will either serve as viagra for that or deflate me like an enjoyable wank.

The Witness is finally available on Mac. Downloaded it and put a couple of hours into it tonight. Thus far, it almost feels like the anti-Zelda: similar environments, but smaller, tighter, more variation and mystery which makes them more compelling, the gameplay so far is so much simpler but so much fresher and more original.

    Fantastic start.
  • I love love love The Witness. Just astounding game design really. Have fun! Feel free to dredge up the thread if you need some help but there may be some slight spoilers not in tags.

I'm looking forward to giving Yakuza 0 a crack as well moot. I think I'll do it after Horizon which I'm mostly enjoying. Bit silly that it comes up with a characters name before Aloy has met them though. Bugs me for some reason.
  • The more I think about Horizon the more I'm annoyed at myself for sticking with it, I could've put those 17hrs or so into X-Com2.  I wanted to like it but most of it rubbed me up the wrong way.
  • Given Sleeping Dogs a rest today (last day of my week off :() in an attempt to finish Ratchet & Clank.  Was initially progressing through it slowly with my daughter watching, but she's decided she hates it now, so it's all systems go.  Might be on the last level now (the death star thing).  I've enjoyed almost everything so far.

I've started Firewatch, Doom and For Honor recently but none of them have really grabbed me. Struggling for motivation to go back to any of them.

Against my better judgment, I then started Shadow of Mordor yesterday and it's bloody great fun. I imagine there's scope for it to become quite repetitive but for now I'm really enjoying the fighting, side missions and nemesis system. More of that tonight.

You just lost all your forum points. Not for not playing, but for not using the obvious wordplay.

  • I didn't, just put an hour in.  The bit where you dress as a monk and bullshit them with Facebook level philosophy, then steal from them, then beat them all up for trying to stop you is amazing.
  • Metro is fucking amazing. Worts and all. Just went through a few sections that were just top tier stunning.
I'm still great and you still love it.

Agreed. Such a frustrating and awkward game, but character and atmosphere out the wazoo.

I want to replay it now. The bit going into the silo with the Rangers was mad good.

Last Light one-ups it I feel though the combat in that is much more skewed towards human opponents.
  • Ooh, good to know re last night.

It actually reminds me of halo 2.

Dev in full adventure and fuck it, try it mode.

If the games are 7 out of 10 it's not because they're average all the way through, it's because they fluctuate between a 10 and a 5!

Just got night vision goggles. Outpost and that section were both incredible. And all the mechanics started to make sense.

A few glitches, but I forgive all.
