Strange. Got stuck so I checked an online walk through. Turns out I simply didn't spot an opening. Anyway, in the walk through there was a section that I completely missed.
Spoiler:
One white guy stands on submarine to reach remote device to control another white guy on a walkway.
I quite like this game - it's sense of place is brilliant but it does only really feel like a standard puzzle platformer. Just with a really great aesthetic. The secrets are good though, you actually have to work to get to them and not just stumble on one cos you pushed against the right bit of background.
I didn't play Super Metroid back at its original release and so have only tried through virtual consoles. I think it's floaty and shit tbh. Prime though, that's one of my games of forever.
It's an experience piece I feel. All about the setting and the atmosphere. I wasn't expecting it to be tricky or a challenge but just be a neat thing to play through. Same as Journey. Worked in that way for me.
Started and finished this today, quite an astonishing piece of work. Dark, macabre, mesmerising and downright bonkers, great experience.

everyone including the kid is a machine created to obey orders and do stuff. The kid became sentient / independent and uncontrollable, escapes and makes his way out. On the way, bumps into a massive lump of others and gets consumed and escapes to die free on the beach.
Secret ending just shows that he is machine cos he switches off power that controls the things and slumps powerless.

That was pretty much my stab at it too.
Awesome atmosphere to the whole thing. Really enjoyed it.
Played this from start to finish last night. Much preferred it's cinematic flourishes and ambient style of gameplay as opposed to its puzzles. It was at its best when the flow was obvious. The only puzzle bit I really got on with was the "19" bit, but overall the Woods to the Farm, parts of the city, the first water bit and the final facility section are the highlights. Like Limbo it suffered when it bogged itself down. Momentum was key, because it leant urgency that the tone of the game supported. The way the camera moves and the animations were exemplary though. The finale is absolutely fantastic, and an immense payoff (bar the one part where it slows down for a puzzle, again).
The plot is almost pointless to try and parse I feel, as there are some bits in the final section that make it very difficult to understand exactly what is going on. I'd elucidate further but im not sure it's really needed.
It's something you really can take whatever you want from so I agree there's not much point trying to analyse for the gratification of others. I found it wonderful and very inspirational but I agree about the puzzles esp in reflection of limbo. Walking left to what mostly felt like padding was a shame, it really didn't need to pander to gameyness so much. I was taking mental notes furiously when it came to the presentation
I think there's definitely an intended plot, but the ending has a lot of layers which are intentionally obfuscating. I read a a few theories about the game being about
Spoiler:
cancer, workers rights, communism etc
which I don't personally agree with (it may allude to these things but that's Barthesian etc) but it's nice for a wordless game to invite a bunch of interpretations.
I read more of some of limbo's themes and a few quite cheesy ones but didn't detract too much, it kind of covered a lot of ground
Spoiler:
I saw bullying, individualism, industrialisation, numbness to catastrophe, I suppose all the typical tropes of people being dicks and whoever isn't is a victim
Been playing this, done about an hour and a half. Besides the relatively simple puzzles that feel like they're merely adding to the game's length, its probably my most enjoyed game of recent times. Wonderful atmosphere, sense of confusion and individual moments that add to the whole thing.
Adore it, even if I have seen the ending when it popped out on the bone.
