Most of Ghibli's output has been great, but do not watch Earthsea. Very poor. Particularly fond of Howl's, Nausicaa, Totoro, and, though I'm not quite sure why, Kikki's. Mononoke left me strangely cold. I think it's reputation raised my expectations too high - Definitely one to give another chance though. Pom Poko is worth it for being bonkers.Â
I just watched REC again. It was excellent. Again.
Earthsea is a bag o shite. It was Myazaki's son, Goro's,chance to take (over?) the helm. but he facked that up proper. Both REC and Arietty are sitting aroung my laptop waiting to be watched, looking forward to both!

Porco has always been my personal favourite. The adriatic sea, blue skies, the planes and the music all come together as a wonderful package for adventure. English dub ain't bad either. Brad Garrett's fantastic as the pirate boss.
Arrietty is possibly my favourite Ghibli since Totoro. It has that same magical quality to it, possibly due to a similar location. The way they conveyed the sense of scale between the two worlds through the visuals and especially the sound was astounding on the big screen.
Arrietty was very lovely indeed. Sometimes i think Ghibli's can suffer from freaky structures that can make them a wee bit boring despite the lovliness though, and i thought this one did a bit.
Spirited Away is the one. Masterpeice.Â
And Toroto.
I think i heard theres a Porco sequel in the works. Is that right?
Aliens is one of the best action films ever made, but the original is unbearably tense, tight, brutal and beautiful, there's no comparison. Also i loved 3 and 4, not sure why they get such a panning
Princess Mononoke is one of their best I think, not the one I always go to, but this is due to its grandeur. A truly epic story of man and nature, with Miyazaki's touch felt in every beautiful frame. It deserves a new cinema release really, they could make a 3D option to reach a wider audience. They must already be considering doing this with a future Ghibli film. Why not test the audience with a lesser known masterwork that has an abundance of action to keep kids entertained and the mature, deep story for the adults.
Just read that Mononoke is getting a blu ray too, Disney have acquired the rights for distribution after being disappointing with the quality of the previous DVD release.
