The first warm-up game was on 2nd June. So it must have been at least a week before that where they got together. Then the WC started on 14th. So three odd weeks at least. They'll probably try and start the season a month early and finish a month late. But that fucks that season completely and possibly the next one due to less recovery and prep time.Paul the sparky wrote:That's just the start if the tournament too, no doubt they'd want a couple of friendly games in before hand. When did the squads get together before this World Cup?

They've wrecked it.Paul the sparky wrote:I've also been reading up on the insanity of the 2026 World Cup, with forty-fucking-eight teams split into sixteen groups of three teams each, top two qualify. Surely the odds of two or even all three teams finishing on the same points will increase? So we might start getting into most corners won or something to split the teams. The crazy, greedy bastards.

The number of games played overall will increase from 64 to 80, but the number of games played by finalists remains at seven, the same as with 32 teams, but one group match will be replaced by a knockout match. The tournament will also be completed within 32 days, the same as previous 32-team tournaments
