Yes, once connected hold down Start and B (Or A due to being Switch) and it'll switch the buttons to the proper layout.

It has a Wii like 'swing' mode, in which you swing the joycon like a racquet. I haven't tried it, but would assume that it must move tbe characters for you while you play the shot. Probably worth a youtube of swing mode.
