Didn't go crazy, just picked up stuff I'd been after for a while. Did a fair few demo games too which was nice.

Let me tell you about a little game called Tao Long. You remember snake right? On Nokia? Of course you do, who doesn't? Well, remember mancala too? Bantumi was the Nokia version iirc. Well, imagine if some insane person combined the two and made an Asian themed boardgame from it. With portals.

    It's blooming awesome.

  • Thanks to the awesome Pea , I've got a copy of Too Many Bones , it's classed as a dice building RPG. He bought it for me at the Uk gaming expo ( as well as Hoplomachus Origins) and nearly cut his hand off as the bag was so heavy :-)

Here's the BGG info about it - Too Many Bones comes loaded for bear by breaking into a new genre: the dice-builder RPG. This game takes everything you think you know about dice-rolling and turns it on its head. Dripping with strategy, this fantasy-based RPG puts you in the skin of a new race and takes you on an adventure to the northern territories to root out and defeat growing enemy forces and of course the infamous "baddie" responsible.

Team up or go it alone in a 1-4 player Coop or Solo play campaign. With over 100+ unique skill dice and 4-7 classes to choose from, every battle is its own mini challenge to figure out. Your adventure will consist of 8-12 battles before you reach your final destination and face off against one of a number of possible kingpins in order to win. Along the way, you will be faced with storyline decisions that will quickly have you weighing risk/reward, odds, and logic - with dice woven into every aspect! Your party will also be faced with other decisions: when to rest, when to explore, or even which fights to pursue! The Encounter cards offer fun plot twists and some comic relief, all while setting the stage for your next battle

It's a great game but the rules take some getting used to as all the characters play completely different with their own skills (which are the dice). The production is the best I've come across and the weight of the game chips is great, until I actually had my own copy I didn't understand why people bought the premium health chips but the extra weighty feel is super sexy.

Each character has his own mat with their 16 unique dice. You earn extra skills by completing encounters and then choosing the skills you want to play with, so repeatability shouldn't be a problem.

The enemies have their own skills too, there's about 18 unique skills, luckily you get a big plastic reference card for general play and the enemy skills. Each Gearloc (your character) also has a double sided plastic sheet with all dice described and their own unique skills.

This Probably makes no sense but I'm loving it after only 2 plays.

And a big thank you to Frantic

  • If anyone hasn’t seen or played them yet I will heartily reccomend The Mind, Ganz Schon Clever and Azul. These to me are 10 our of 10 games.

I keep seeing The Mind come up on my Amazon recommendations. Must have a look at it.
  • if you ever do bite I recommend reading the rules off bgg (unless you get an English version) and absorb them completely.

Don’t learn the game off a guy explaining on the Internet (or in a pub).

That's how I basically learn the games I'm playing

  • Read an excellent review of The Mind on Shut Up and Sit Down. Sounds great and is particularly cheap.
Gamertag: aaroncupboard (like the room where you keep towels)
  • I am trying to shift all my stuff for the impending move, so here are a list of boardgames and some prices, excluding postage.

Small World £20 (you'll need to print out some instructions)
    Libertalia £25
    Dead of Winter £25
    Netrunner Core £15
    Cosmic Encounter £30
    Xcom £20*
    Sheriff of Nottingham £15*
    King of Tokyo £15
    Sherlock Holmes £15
    Cyclades £20*
    Space Hulk £50

I haven't researched the prices massively, most of them are about 30%-50% off retail though. Some details of things like Space Hulk would need to be hashed out etc

*Rev has expressed an interest in these, for clarity
  • Was interested in Cyclades but have sooooooo many games- good luck Tempy

I went in for Tang Garden on Kickstarter. Looks fancy.
It's a goddamn snoozefest out there.
  • So... this exists now.

  • At this point there’s a munchkin variant of everything, and they’re all rubbish because Munchkin is rubbish.
  • Well I played the first scenario/campaign of Gloomhaven last night with a friend. It was massive, took ages to set up, had loads of intuitive rules and effects and was exceptionally good fun!

It really is a full RPG in a box with some lovely character creation (hello Ti’ar the Terrible - the nomadic mercenary tribal warrior seeking the ultimate hunt of monsters) and great legacy style moments (stickers!!!). It was great fun.

Does look ace , I backed the original kickstarter but sold it for £150 to pay for my Switch, and I only got the version with standees and not mini's for your characters.

Played Too Many Bones again last week , which was great but there's lots of different rules as each character has there own set of 20 dice that do unique things plus the enemies have different abilities but there's a reference card that explains each one . You do learn them though if you play it enough.

Hoplomachus Origins is next to play ( which can also be played Solo)

Has anyone played Arkham Adventure Card Game, my friend wants to play that soon. Looks really good but is a LCG which is a put off.

  • I have to say some damn fine artistry on display in here. Some jaw dropping skills by Tempting and I'm loving the gaslands stuff.

I've just started painting for the first time, can someone advise what sort of brush I need for dry brushing and some decent beginner vids?

  • I got the magazine! Actually 4 copies of the first for practice.and 2 of the second.but I ordered the starter set for my brother, should arrive this week.

  • Yeah the mag is good, even I picked up issue one for the cheap Primaris, but the instructions in it are pretty bum.

I wouldn’t recommended painting without using some kind of primer first, be that some vallejo brush in stuff or some spray paint - car body spray is allegedly good if you’re on the cheap but I am a sucker for the GW stuff as there recourse to return it if it’s bad.

If you ever need any help or anything, feel free to post here or drop me a PM
  • Cheers I will :)
I bought a can of primer before painting indeed. Guy I used to work with is big into painting so got a couple of tips.i must put up a few pics. Got some brass paints yesterday might.try to do some on the plague Marines tonight

I got the 3 easy to build guys so that I could convert them up for Kill Team specialists that have the weapons I didn't use from my Plague Marine box. It went ok!
