Thank god. I even enjoyed MGS4, but this one really hasn't grabbed me plot wise.

  • Everything but the ghosts is so good.

Mission 6, the bee. What a shit ending.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Can you check your inbox, please, @Facewon?
  • Knee deep in this. So good. Forgetting how much stuff there is to unlock. Don't even have D dog as usable yet. 10% done. 9 out of 11 open missions done.

    Its still glorious.

I reserve the right to complain about various ghost missions.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • I really wish this game had been more coherent/connected like MGS3. Instead its so segmented and too many areas aren't able to be traversed. Which is really jarring with one of the best control systems ever.

  • Just hit second area. Base is huge.

Pretty well at the point where I need to not go so hard on side ops, because I need to do main missions to allow for new unlocks.

Got ddog, walker and trying to remember what triggers silent actually being playable. (I assume a mission.)

Defintely killing more folks this time. If you don't have yellow stats and you're in my way, bye bye.

Re sections, it is a minor annoyance that there's not more short cuts in Afghanistan, but it's far from game breaking, especially with the chopper and vehicles.

(and the second area is almost completely open, TBF.)

Have the heavy duty Fulton now too. The real fun begins.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • I wish I could enjoy it as much as you seem to be.

My happiest was MGS3 and the consequences of raiding supply and ammo stores.

  • I just found all the others far too punishing of death. And/or so chopped up that it was hard to get a rhythm.

This actually allows you to be badass and properly scope an entire village/area and then go in like you know wtf you're doing.

I'm in that midgme sweet spot too, with a bunch of toys and bunch of outposts to mess around with.

Calling in air strikes for the fuck of it.

Somehow haven't managed to try fultoning a truck with dudes in it, that's coming. Gonna try some more tricks loading up Jeeps with c4 too. I nearly got it to work on bone. Jeep, c4 and a decoy on the bonnet.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • I alway found them quite easy, but how do you feel about the bosses in V? I didnt even like them in MGS4 and Peace Walker where they felt like bullet sponges. The ghosts who throw boulders at you always felt really cheap and frustrating moreso than anything else.

We each have our niche I suppose.

Playing with the possibilitys are what make this so good.
For bonus points stick c4 to the back of a patrol, make a cup of tea, roll a joint and watch him walk right up to your target and Boom!

    Game is so fun.
  • The bosses are a mixed bag. But that's been the same in all of them. Quiet battle is fun. There's some pants ones, but I've played 30+ hours. Opening sequence has a set piece. There's the first ghost mission where you steal a rocket launcher and it goes to shit, and quiet.

I know I have the shit truck stealing one to come and there's a return of fire dude that was annoying the first time, but they're actually so few and far between I don't care.

Now, I think I was three quarters through when I was on bone, and I also had a problem with the kid rescue level, with the well known invis glitch, but still.

Even with all of that, and even if the last few proper missions are piss tier. The vast majority of play time is gonna have been so enjoyable I don't care.

I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Oh God. The truck mission.

    Someone remind me.

Pretty sure it's just a shit show and I need to leg it.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Fulton worked. Thank God.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Got the kids basically first go too. Good mission overall.

Trying to crack on more with them now.

I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Jesus. Quarantine storyline cuts a bit close these days.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Ooof, Mission 29 can do one. Just checked a walkthrough. Bulletsponges as well, ffs.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • Yeah that would be one of the missions that made me put it down.

I've just started this again on PC, mainly because i found the gorgeous official guide in storage and it brought back so many great gaming memories. Plus i'm disgruntled there are no decent 3rd person (gun-porn) shooters in 2020, and also because its still unparalleled when it comes to open world stealth.

It works so well because when shit goes sideways (as it always does), you can deal with it however you please. Run away like a rat! Go full auto rampage. Theres no wrong approach - the only failure is death. Thats true freedom of choice.

So! The hour intro of cutscenes and Keifer's butt can test your patience, but its Kojima - you buy the ticket you take the ride. Then you hit the open world proper:

I was shocked how pristine it looks for a 2016 game! Yes, i know its unfair to compare a 2020 spec laptop to a PS4 but thats kinda my point - its holds up really well. That Fox engine is truly remarkable. The characters, the lighting, the open world are all gorgeous! Shame we'll likely never see it used again, and certainly not as well.

Second, the character feels really nice to control (a must in any game of any genre). That panic Y to dive button is amazing and i can't believe its not been stolen. I turned off the easy mode reaction slowdown thing - if i get caught i wanna react in realtime.

I'm still early doors and like before, clearing encampments largely revolves around a few silenced headshots, then one guard i missed fucks up my plan, and i murder the lot of em without breaking a sweat.

I loved this game first time around. I saw the credits but never bothered with the superfluous repeated Episoides. I'll likely do the same again. Not much else on offer that can scratch this particular itch.
