If Microsoft adopted the X in the One X to denote that it was a step up from the basic One (or One S). And the Series X is possibly called that because it’s a step up from the stated Scarlet version (S, you see?). Then does that mean that Microsoft won’t be doing another mid-generation console? Or do you expect the Series X, erm X?
I think they'll just make it "new series x" or something. They've put the 'series' in there so they can just update it with a new model and not name it something new, like the 'new ipad' apple did
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
MS and Sony should just say that the systems are fully BC with some *legal disclaimer attached, but just don't bother implementing it cos really, nobody will bother using it. other than Reg maybe.
To be fair, there’s a big dif between PS1-PS2 / GA-GBA physical back compat and backwards compatibility in the age of digital. I expect people to load up their hard drives pretty quick come the new gen, purely due to owning digital copies.
One of the features I'm looking forward to from the new consoles is the fast start and perhaps more so the multi game save state.
I'm bouncing round between a few games at the moment and one of them is Red Dead which takes an age to load. The thought of how long it will take to load sometimes puts me off if I'm honest. Impatient I know!
Having Red Dead start instantly from where I left off along with a couple of other games would be amazing.
I was just checking through my Amazon history and saw that I paid £314 for a PS4 Pro at launch and £279 for the Switch at launch. 3+ years for both consoles and the RRP today is either £349 for the Pro and still £279 for the Switch.
I recognise that you may pick up a discount here or there, or a packed in game, but this suggests there’s not much point in waiting for new hardware (if you can afford it).
It’s been a long time since we had hardware issues on the scale of the x360 - and even then it was repaired at no cost to the owner by Microsoft. Likewise, we haven’t had a ‘dud’ perhaps since the WiiU - and even that sold over 12 million units and gave us some fantastic games.
Who here’s going to wait, and who here’s going to jump in as close to launch for Series X or PS5?
I'll be grabbing a Series X and selling my Bone X. My existing games will run better and I'll sell my X while it's still worth a bit, so its a no brainer for me.
