It's so distinctively Kojima, certainly over-indulgent, far too dialogue-heavy and absurdly blunt with its themes. But full of all those neat little stylistic touches, deliberate moments of dissonance, odd little systems. It's pretentious and dumb and clever and interesting at the same time.
And, I kind of like the walking. Having to plot paths like that and think about where you're stepping is just a different way of navigating than what we're used to. It changes the focus of something that we do without thinking in other open world games. How that stretches to tens of hours, I've no idea, but I'm OK with it so far.
I think it'll be one to play in bits here and there between other things. It's not something I want to keep going at in long sessions, but I do want to do more of it.
I need to get back to this to finish it. I'm pretty sure I'm close to the end. I like the strolling, it's a nice way to relax in an afternoon. I tend to avoid all the combat encounters if I can even though there's a lot of options when it comes to that.
Finished chapter 3 and I'm already 20 hours in. Checked to see how many chapters and... I assume/hope the rest are a lot shorter than 2 and 3. It certainly needs to pick up the pace a bit now.
I still like it, but could do without too much more of it.
I keep saying I'll stop but then go back to it. Chapter 6 was probably my favourite part yet, just when I was starting to tire. Now on chapter 8 and wondering if I may even go the distance.
Yes. From what I’ve seen you can get a 4k image but because it’s processed from a 1k image (rather than rendering every pixel it’s rendering a quarter of the pixels and “guessing” the rest) the net performance left over can increase the frame rate sometimes by about 40%
The other secret advantage it seems to have is that it handles those one pixel hair graphics a lot better because it doesn’t try to draw things that are impossibly small and then become inherently jagged.
It’s very exciting and - if Nintendo uses it in their next handheld - could really increase the quality of the console further than the hardware would implicitly suggest.
As far as I can tell there are zero disadvantages reported from DLSS use but I’m sure there’ll eventually be a Market for “pure 4k” graphics cards which do the work of half price graphics cards with no extrapolation.
Things like this are why I've been saying that the whole 1080p/4K resolution distinction will become relatively meaningless in the next gen, things will look pretty great at 4K running on any of the devices. It means that if the Lockhart Xbox console becomes a thing you can expect that to deliver very similar visuals to the X, probably, depending on what kind of features AMD has for their SOC.
Yeah this is the bit I think the consoles will lag behind on. I think this DLSS is just about standard on NVIDIA but not even a comparable tech on the current top stuff for AMD - so I find it extremely unlikely that the consoles will have it (and the fact they are presenting 30fps as standard which feels like the place you’d see the gain if they had it).
It feels like next gen should have held off maybe a year or so.
The new AMD graphics architecture will have some new features, we know there's going to be ray tracing support, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see something similar to DLSS. At the very least there is the advanced sharpening technique available in all the recent GPUs which can look very good.
I've finished chapter 9. Utterly ridiculous and utterly brilliant. I could still find plenty of faults with this game, but it's such a breath of fresh air. I feel like I've got my second, or third, wind now, and want to see it through.
Well, thanks again for sending it. It's taken a while to get to properly because of various other games getting in the way, but it's quiet at the moment, and finally it seems worth seeing through.
This whole page is a testament to my shifting opinions. It's something of a mess, sometimes a drag, but one thing's for sure there's more imagination and originality here than in 10 Ghost of Tsushima's. I've heard it said that it really shits the bed towards the end, but after ch. 9 I feel like I may be up for its brand of absurdity.
It is an absolute mess but then he pulls imagery right out of my ideal horror and shit is awesome. Wandering around a beautiful landscape is also lovely.
