I dunno how to post a video from twitter on here. But im curious. What would you guys do if you caught the people shooting fireworks at pedestrians from a moving car? Personally, id be quite happy if
their fingers were broken to teach them a lesson. But thats just me. https://twitter.com/CrimeLdn/status/1323351637520470017?s=09

Am I a copper in this scenario? If so I'd arrest them, charge them with the relevant crime and pass the file onto the CPS.

Not everything is The Best or Shit. Theres many levels between that, lets just enjoy stuff.

You are walking north in a shithole.

You see a red Ford Fiesta driving towards you with two young men in Lonsdale tracksuits. They are setting off fireworks in the air as they drive

    Do you:

    A) Take out your smartphone and call the police (turn to page 43)

    Or

    B) take out your claw hammer and rush the car (turn to page 69)

Now I'm talking specifically about asian community as missus was born and raised there and has family there. Its standard for them (a certain type subculture) to live at home and hire/lease/whatever high performance golf R's, S3's, RS3's etc and drive them like utter loons on the streets. They wont listen to their parents or anyone in authority. They think the rules of the road dont apply to them. Plenty of very nice cars have been totalled by these pillocks.

If your asian yourself you would understand straight away what i was talking about. I'm not being racist I'm talking about a culture i understand very very well.

    True

The rules are there to keep us all safe.

In theory, but I'd consider anyone who thinks legislation is all well written and fairly implemented is completely crazy

Also whats cheaper having your car seized and crushed when you have no insurance and get caught. Then repeat that process everytime or getting insurance in the first place?

Well obviously getting insurance would in most cases be cheaper in that scenario. But....that seems like the perps are being severely punished by having their cars repeatedly seized and destroyed due to having no insurance. So - wait - are you trying to have it both ways with this argument? Surely not!
    Dinostar77 wrote:
You can also get driving lessons and pass a test so i dont think economically disadvantaged holds any water in my own opinion.

I'm not sure what this means, nor how it relates to whatever the argument is. But perhaps you mean they are not economically disadvantaged because they can afford driving lessons and pass a test? Or that, erm, no?

My old man worked 2 jobs, 7 days a week when i was a kid (and still does now). We never had a holiday abroad or bikes / swimming lessons as kids. It was a struggle for my parents. I used to save my dinner money for a year so i could buy one game a year for my snes.

Nice bit of self poverty porn. But have you considered that what your dad had to do, and still does, and the less advantaged childhood you had, is a bad thing? That being proud of having to work seven days a week in two jobs just to make ends meet and provide for a family is a perverse way of endorsing a deeply unfair society? That maybe by properly supporting people with proper wages, welfare, and social outreach like bikes for kids or subsidised swimming lessons or just school trips to the seaside for disadvantaged urban kids and funded community groups to keep bored disenfranchised adolescents off streets and out of crime we can avoid needing to kneecap them for relatively minor offences?
    Dinostar77 wrote:
We were economically disadvantaged, but my old man still paid his car insurance and still followed the rules of the road. Im sure he'd rather have used that money for other stuff but it had to be paid for the car insurance. Thats the law.

    Cool story bro

Also many traffic offenses are caused by stupid idiots in their early 20s who live at home and hire high performance cars and act like complete dicks on the roads.

I don't know. How many? as a proportion or all road crime? as an estimated proportion of prosecuted road crime? are these early 20s idiots the rich ones or the poor ones? does it matter? what is your point here and how is it relevant to your overall point, which seems to be that poor northern city dwellers who drive illegally should be severely punished?

Theres a reason why as an asian myself we refer to asians in Bradford as inbred retards (cause they are). No respect for the police the rules of the road or saftey of pedestrians or other road users.

Also yes its a tv show, but i also know a few coppers (none are interceptors) and brother in law is one. I am aware of the crap they have to deal with in a daily basis and how little respect there is for the police nowadays.

We pay the police to protect and support us. This truth has been used to force the police, over several generations, to become more transparent and more answerable, accountable, than before. There is a very long way to go, still. If you fund a fairer society, you benefit from less crime. If you respond to a "lack of respect" with vigilante violence and suppression you merely up the stakes and make things immeasurably worse. The fact that this isn't obvious to you is a depressing indictment of your life experience and your thoughtfulness.

On the other hand I"m pretty sure this is all a troll to "own the libs" on this forum so

  • I’m acutely aware that this feels a lot like ‘pick on Dino day’ and I don’t particularly like that, but Dino, you’ve spouted some absolutely horrid things here.

You’re balls deep into ‘an eye for an eye’ territory and that’s not a good place to be.

Yeah. I can get the anger but it’s never really helpful to dwell on it too much. Let it swell then pop rather than swell and fester and grow.

I don’t think the form of retorting too much is really that helpful. I think Dino explained his perspective well and I sort of empathise even though i disagree. You only have to look at that news about the terrorist white supremacist only getting a suspended sentence to feel like justice can be really an ass while people Labour and work their butt off to stay in the lines.
