I was thinking the same thing.

I honestly can't remember the last time my internet was down, so that's not really a concern.

If the telemetry that they are pulling from the game lets them see which arears I spent more time in, or which guns I used more, or which enemies I engaged more with then all I'm all for it as hopefully this data will allow the developer to make better games in the future.

Can someone explain why a game that requires always online stops people playing it? I don’t get it. I take you it have no internet at home then?

There’s no benefit to always online for a single player game - which they’ve gone out of their way to treat it is recently - a single player game with optional co-op.

Plenty of single player games, like Monster Hunter, No Many Sky etc. handle online fine here, letting you go on/offline when you please.

The problem with always online is that it’s not just a problem of my internet connection, it’s also their side. More than one SP game I’ve owned has stopped working when something has fucked up dev-side. GT7 being the most recent example where a small one-hour maintenance (again, unnecessary for a single player game) update turned the game offline for 24 hours just after launch.

At best, it doesn’t get in the way of how the game should be, at worst it damages the game. Always online SP games are never improved by the forced connection component and I’ve gone out of my way to not support them.

If it’s not a problem for others, that’s fine, but nowadays if I see that I have to think whether I really, really want the game and in this case…I don’t, not enough.

For sth like Destiny or Final Fantasy XIV, I can accept it, given that they are MMOs.

Worth noting as well that I live in China, at the mercy of the great firewall, so if I have issues with my VPN, these games become unplayable for me.

If it doesn’t bother other people that’s fine, but I’d never be weird about someone deciding it’s a deal-breaker.

I do agree with the separate account though; that kinda stuff is a pain in the arse.

I was just curious about Destiny. I completed them solo, didn't even get an MMO vibe from them at all tbh.

For me, it's simply that the game might not be available when I want to play it - could be internet issues my end or their end. And what happens in 5/10 years time when they've turned off the servers?

It's the same issue I have with Denuvo. In the future, these games will no longer work.

Then you have the account linking crap so they can track you even more. Who plays what and does what, at what time, are our lovely micro transactions being bought correctly, etc...

It's part of normalising this behaviour so they can rent games to us in the future via subscription services.

I hate the account linking shite. I can never remember any of my log ins or passwords so find myself having to reset passwords over and over.
I really don't want ANOTHER bloody log in to have to worry about

It's about 5 or 6 years since I finished it so what do I know.

Decent enough 6/10 shooters I guess.

Sounds like I should play Titanfall 2 again instead.

I'd say yes, you can play a lot of content solo and it'll matchmake some of the bits you need to. Well worth playing the campaigns.

It is more tedious between apps than with pure websites, even with password managers (IME)
