I got my dates wrong, Divorce are playing here on Sunday, which means I can't go. There are 7 bands playing an all-dayer with Divorce finishing it up. Reckon it'll be amazing so I'm gutted.
Anyhoo, a mate recommended Pye Corner Audio. I got their Black Mill Tapes from Boomkat after listening to this
Went to see a band called OBE last night based on wanting to go to a gig, heading onto London gig guide .net, listening to a few of their tracks and deciding to take a punt.
They were incredible.
The stuff I'd heard before I went all turned out to be old and I don't think they played any of it. Instead, we were treated to an hour of Mogwai channelling Drive Like Jehu.
They've got another gig in somewhere London on the 25th and an album coming out soon. I really can't recommend them highly enough.
Good shouts. Just listened to some obe and Pye Corner Audio stuff and yup, they're great. obe in particular tickle my fancy. Will look out for any local gigs.
Might go and see And You Will Know Us by The Trail of the Dead, on Tuesday.
Oh god, I fucking love those guys. Source Tags and Codes is possibly the finest album ever created, and Tao of the Dead was a welcome return to top form. Gonna get tickets for the Wolves show on the 21st m'self.
can't believe they're playing Berlin to be honest. I was made up divorce were playing. also trying to sort out a venue for barberos to play while I am here.
"Better than a tech demo. But mostly a tech demo for now. Exactly what we expected, crashes less and less. No multiplayer." - BnB NMS review, PS4, PC
Just booked tickets to see Hot Snakes in London in June. I saw them a little over a year ago and they were excellent. I'm hoping this time they chuck a couple of Drive Like Jehu tracks into the set as well, they have been known to.
Rather embarrassingly I didn't even know Hot Snakes had reunited, Froberg and Reis were born to play together. Gutted they're not doing more UK shows this time. And Drive Like Jehu tracks as well? Damn.
@Beano; That's some luck alright. Still need to check out Barberos properly.
And here's the latest from a band called Stignoise. They've just finished up recording in Rotterdam. I must say the past two shows I caught were excellent.

I quite like these - got that opener on at present, if yous missed the poino link a page back maybe they're worth a look at their bandcamp. Awesome album artwork too.

Delved into Boredoms and Melt Banana at long last, was rewarded with some glorious noise. Can't believe it's taken so long. Melt Banana are in danger of becoming my new favourite old band.
I saw Boredoms play a gig at the Royal Festival Hall many years ago which involved 3 drummers and a bloke playing a reel to reel tape machine. It was great.
If it helps, I found out tonight that the French/Colombian has seen Nirvana live, which means she's seen all of my top four bands-I-could-have-seen-live-but-didn't-and-now-it's-too-late (Nirvana, Jeff Buckley, At the Drive-In, Life Without Buildings).
Nirvana and At the Drive-In? Yeah, I'm jealous as well.
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead tickets acquired. I'm both excited and a little nervous, why the hell am I nervous? Seriously, these guys are probably my favourite active band, I've wanted to see them for thirteen or so years. Maybe I'm just worried they won't live up to my expectations, I dunno.
Good to know, cheers Tempy. I'm starting to break into huge grins whenever I think about it. Still getting butterflies though. What the hell's happening to me? There's still a week to go ferchristsake.
I missed the Trail of the Dead gig. Couldn't warrant the cash 26quids- I feel dumb. Went to see Gallops, again and then went to the Trail of the Dead after show party as it was only a fiver. Took a lady, so everything cost double. I'm that kind of guy. I think it's called a mug.
If you were in a band in the 90s, getting a gig was a case of taking a tape into a venue and if they liked it, that was it. You' d get a gig. If you played a few times and got a few people down, you'd get supports for touring bands.
My brag story is that I was in a band who once supported ...Trail of Dead in the Roadhouse in Manchester (tiny venue but used to be one of the best in Manchester for small touring bands). They sound-checked the same tune for absolutely ages, then when they'd finished the sound-check, Jason Reece said that he didn't know why they'd played that song because it wasn't in their set. They were immense live and in such a small venue it was amazing. Must've been around the time of Madonna. My band also supported Muse in the Roadhouse.
Promoters these days don't take risks so it's harder for local bands to make any impact.
