It's been a barren year for gigs for me, annoyingly missed Sprints last month due to train strikes but thankfully got tickets to see them next year at least. Looks like the end of the year will be a bit more fruitful as seeing Teen Mortgage next week, Death From Above 1979 on 1st December and Militarie Gun on 5th December.
December seems quite packed so glad to have more options finally but doubt I'll be able to squueze them all in which is a shame.
Back from seeing Young Fathers in Mancland. Best live band on the planet, for my money. Adding new members Amber Joy and Kim Mandindo into the mix have really elevated things to another level. Astounding.
It wasn't until I hit my thirties that I realised you could unlock rewards by exploring the map
I'm getting kind of annoyed at myself in that most of the gigs I'm going to nowadays are for "retro" bands. My next two gigs are going to be The Charlatans and Sea Power doing "Do You Like Rock Music". Before this, my last gig was Pulp.
Sad old man. My only defense can be that in February I was supposed to see Trampolene, but had Covid. In May I saw The St Pierre Snake Invasion, and in October I was supposed to see Snayx, but... had Covid!

Took my son to see Queens of the Stone Age last night. He's a huge fan - I used to be, but after 2 previous and very disappointing times seeing them I wasn't really looking forward to it that much.
Holy fuck. This was the gig that I'd been longing to see from them since I first heard them. QotSA were, third time lucky for me, absolutely fucking phenomenal. Josh Homme has finally stopped taking himself too seriously and the whole band are just enjoying playing what was basically a greatest hits set of banging fucking songs. 4 songs from the new album, and everything else from their early days and most importantly - Songs for the Deaf. All driven by a tight as all hell rhythm section, with one of the best rock drummers I've ever seen. Went in with low expectations and was blown away.
I'm very, very jealous. I've seen QoTSA three times and they've been excellent each time. That said, this year they seem to have stepped up to a new level. The Glastonbury performance was fucking incredible.

When you look back over their body of work it’s interesting how they evolved from a sort of stoner rock/sludge rock subgenre into a massively mainstream rock act. And without knowing much about it, I suspect their good/bad performance history is linked to their drug habits at the time …
LCD Soundsystem hinting at a return to the UK in 2024. A number of us went to the Glasgow gig at SWG3 with Young Fathers opening. Can safely say that and Bowie were the two best of my life. Bring it on.
Jesus fucking Christ, I felt old at this gig tonight. Last song, one of the guitarists from Hinds jumps into the crowd, kneels down, and beckons the crowd of twenty-somethings to do the same. So they do. And I'm left standing there, in the midst of them all thinking if I kneel down, with these knees, I may not be able to get back up again. So I stand there, like a lemon, whilst my fellow gig-goers take the knee and then triumphantly leap into the air when the baseline drops. A small part of me died tonight.
Anyway, if I can endure such ritualtion humiliation, you can too. Get out there and support your local music venue:
