    Indeed, but it's worth it.

  • I had a girlfriend like that once.

Noticed I have CivCity:Rome sitting ignored on my steam games list, so have decided to install that. Presume it came as part of a bundle with some of the Civs. Will give it a play tomorrow.

You know what, it's really good. A bit Sim City, a bit Civ, quite Rome-y.

I could probably have inferred most of that from the title.

Good time-waster (yes, it's pushing 1am), in a Settlers-y kind of way. Feels like the sort of game that'd be horrendously over-complicated if it was released today, or that would sit perfectly as a stripped down game on a tablet or something (though would no doubt be cursed by microtransactions).

    Anyway, will play again tomorrow.
  • Too many games on the go at the moment, trying to focus on a few.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - it's a game I keep returning to and just couldn't pass up the HD download on PS3 for £3.99 after my Xbox suddenly decided it didn't want to load past the menu screen anymore. It's still arguably the finest stealth game ever made. Abundance of atmosphere, joy to play, looks wonderful and the level design is just stunning. And of course that Amon Tobin score. Shame there's a few technical issues with the sound on this version though.

MGS3: Snake Eater HD - After the trip down memory lane with the simply bonkers 'Sons Of Liberty', I can finally play this piece of brilliance with the 3D camera implemented in Subsistence. One thing I never appreciated is how entertaining and hilarious the codec conversations are when repeatedly calling characters. Kojima really did go all out with this one, I'm appreciating it even more now than when it was released. Bluepoint have done an amazing job with the game.

    Stacking - Charming!

Other games I need to return to:

Fez - think i got up to around 140%, the location of the final pieces to make up the last normal cube still eludes me

Skyrim - I think I'll always prefer more linear adventures, must continue with the Daedric quests as they seem to be the most interesting.

Chrono Trigger (Wii) - It's been 7 months, shit I think I've forgotten the story and how to even play effectively.

You've forgotten the story? Does that mean you actually knew what the hell was going on at one point coz I sure as hell didn't!

Bluepoint really are excellent at this. The team responsible for the DMC HD pack only serve to highlight how great Bluepoint are.

Apparently they reverse engineer the on-disc code instead of using the source code for maximum awesomeness.

  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma is another lesson in HD Remixing. Shame they didn't touch the cut-scenes, though.

  • The first Sigma?  I thought that was a lesson in how not to do it.

It looked great in static shots.  Framerate, not so much.

I would say that Stranger's Wrath is the lesson everyone should follow.  Not only did they spend a lot of time and care upgrading the assets, they also upped the framerate to 60fps (mostly).  I prefer it to the original whereas I'd rather play Black than Sigma.
  • Hmm I didn't have any issues with NG Sigma. I do fancy Stranger's Wrath, maybe in a price crash or something.

  • Yeah I'm waiting patiently on a price-cut for Stranger's Wrath too.

It's a disgrace that there can be these lazy so-called HD versions released when others are treating them with genuine love and care. I was looking forward to Silent Hill 2 HD so much, then the reviews surfaced and I felt betrayed. Do the creators not have any say over these versions? If they had any respect they'd pull it from the shelves/web and hand it over to someone competent.
  • Konami seem to have a weird attitude towards Silent Hill in general. Weird as in they don't seem give a shit.

Apparently the only source code they had available was from a pre-final version, which caused a lot of problems.

Hadn't the developers heard of this thing called 'second-hand games'. You used to be able to get them in a shop called 'Game'.

Reverse engineering the final code is supposed to be an extremely hard, very specialist thing to do. I'm not sure many people outside of Bluepoint are capable of doing it.

Made any headway with Tales of V? I got quite near the end (possibly last dungeon) a while back, so eager to get across the line.

    Batman: Arkham Whatever.

It's alreet, a bit repetitive and I can't be bothered with any side missions, just gonna bang through the main story. Combat is still satisfying.
  • Yes, someone finally agrees with me. One of the most over-rated games in recent years.

Really? Although you could put a bat-symbol on a piece of shit, and I'd still lap it up.

Still working through Deus Ex. It's a lot better now I've upgraded my fella a bit. Game seems to be opening out more now too. I can see multiple playthroughs on this one. Weather is slowing me down a little.

Gave up on Street Fighter x Tekken.

Yeah really. It's a solid [7] imo, so it's not bad, just not something I want to spend a good few hours at a time on.

  • Started Comic Jumper yesterday (1hr in), which I haven't touched since I bought it over a year ago.

I've got mixed feelings on it so far.  The idea is good and the comedy stylings, as usual from Twisted Pixel, hit the mark fairly often, but the gameplay isn't far from average, and it's quite unforgiving in places.  I like it, and I think I'm going to stick with it, but without the bells and whistles the actual run 'n gun gameplay doesn't touch something like, say, Alien Hominid.

Howdy, Stranger!
