Sons of the Forest out today. Absolutely loved The Forest. I'm crossing all my fingers for it to be added to Geforce Now as Thursday is when new titles are added.
So Sons of the Forest is absolutely superb. Granted you'll only like it if you love open world survival crafting games like me, but this is already up there with Grounded and Valheim as my favourite of the genre. It's absolutely stunning visually too. The season just changed to Autumn and it looks even better now with all the orange/brown leaves everywhere.
The atmosphere, building and exploration is all top notch and I haven't found a single bug yet. I can only imagine that it's in early access because all of the content hasn't been added yet and it already feels like a complete game.
The enemies, like the first game, are creepy as all fuck. They're more terrifying when just observing you from a distance than when they actually attack.
Your AI helper is brilliant too, alleviating some of the grind of tree chopping and resource collection when playing solo. He's not always on the ball, so I guess that's one thing they could work on, but for the most part he does exactly what you ask.
Apparently they sold 2 million copies in 24 hours.
Been fiddling around with my Steam library to see what's a good fit for the Deck and I came across The Long Dark. I've had it for years, since he beginning of early access but only played a couple of times. Turns out it's a perfect match for the Deck and looks gorgeous on the small screen. While I suppose it's a survival game it might be better to consider it a freezing and starving to death simulator. It has fantastic night and day that goes from orange hued sunrises, to blue skies and to night time pitch darkness or aurora borealis. The weather can go from crisp and clear to howling blizzards and zero visibility. It hits that loot button too as you search everywhere for a scrap of food or bit of wood to burn. Out of all the survival games I've played, and it's a genre I like, this seems to best get that survival bit right as you're always close to freezing/starving/dehydrating/getting savaged by a bear. So good is the survival mode that I haven't even looked at the story mode yet.
Ah, Nah, just googled. There's some shit dynamic settings for brightness in Windows 11 and they only show up if I have the laptop not plugged into the monitor. Plus it appears not all the options show up even then.
