EvilRedEye wrote:While we're on the subject of Tolkien, I was gonna mention that the new illustrated hardbacks are getting very well reviewed by fans - they're just normal hardback price but have decent, thick acid-free paper, colour illustration plates and some colour printing on stuff like chapter headings that matches the binding colour. And proper sewn binding with a ribbon bookmark. It seems like a lot of Tolkien's stuff is gonna get reissued in this format (Tales from the Perilous Realm is coming in May IIRC) so if you've never owned a decent hardback set of Tolkien or want one for the kids to inherit or something, they're worth a look. They're not Folio quality (the paper stock in my copy of Unfinished Tales has a very cold, almost greenish tone) but Harper Collins and Folio now charge a lot for reprints of Tolkien special editions that are now printed in China and have patchy quality control so this is a chance to get a set that are good value and being printed in Slovenia and Italy for now.
