The console versions are a fair bit easier to control, I'd say give it a go.
My gf's 8 year old plays Lego games (the Batman ones are good for them as he should already know all the characters), mine craft and the odd blast on one of the need for speed games. I'd say they would stand him in good stead.
Like what happened with the 360 version of San An? They uprezed it and put a few more options in there. The downside is some of the tuned fuck off cos licenses have expired.
It might be hard to convince the kid to go from COD back to age appropriate stuff. Most games are either killing or sports. I'd go for a decent mature title but less bloodthirsty like maybe one of the Batmans or Mass Effect.
Guacamelee is simple innocent fun but God knows what your average COD-exposed 10 year old would make of it.
