First Cow. An interesting indie film that could be read in a few ways. Liked it a lot.

    Edge of Darkness

A shadow of the BBC series from the 80s. The ending is so ludicrously Hollywood it hurts. Weird seeing something that in many ways is very close to that series but is just off in a bizarre parallel dimension. It passed a hour or two though - and those payoffs at the end were almost comedic.

    Spoiler:

Good grief - film and series - same director. Show me the money, eh?

The Old Guard - it's kind of lucky there's a pandemic and a lot of people are at home and this is on Netflix, because I can't imagine many people paying to see this shit. Cool Americans in sunglasses shoot a lot of people, but wait they're immortal so we can have lots of extra shooting. Fuck off. Admittedly I only lasted three quarters of an hour and maybe it suddenly gets brilliant, but I doubt it.
  • I watched it last night. It was objectively bad, but I still enjoyed it. There was a lot of wasted potential in there, I liked the premise, but I think they could’ve done a lot more with it.

I think I was able to enjoy it because I thought it was going utter garbage. It wasn’t brilliant or anything, but it wasn’t utter garbage. Also I like looking at Charlize Theron.

  • I liked it. Decent enough action and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of character development in it. Let down by science dweeb bad guy. Seems to be the current running theme - dweeb science Lex Luthory type with private army of Blackwater military types. At least Guy Pierce gave Science Dweeb a sliver of menace in Bloodshot.

Remake of Taking of Pelham 123. Ludicrous nonsense. Police crashes with ransom money etc. Load of old tosh.

Followed by Crimson Tide for some guffawish gung ho. Waste of talent on offer on both of these.

Whoa there Davy. Crimson Tide is top Scott action. It’s like action comfy blanket for me. Denzel and Hackman going at is not as good as Cruise and Jack, but it’s a close second. Stone cold Scott (the consistently good Scott, not the one who got lucky with two films and milked it) movie.

It's enjoyable stuff but the ludicrous behaviour puts me off. When I saw who was in it I was expecting more I have to say.  Waving guns around in a submarine. Come on.

Probably expecting too much. Hackman is one of my titans and the more I see of Washington the more I like him.

There are a handful of possibilities for who you were on about here but all of them are increasingly funny as I think of it.

I love the idea of Sean Lock being some kind of Bond villain that just doesn't give a shit for the tropes.

I love the niche he has carved.

15 Storeys High is easily the most underrated British comedy.
