Nick Robinson's, softboy in chief at Polygon made a shitty tweet about the Switch port of Overcooked, leading to people subtweeting him about his creepyness on women, which led to more people saying "yeah this s a thing" and apparently he's a real sleazeball who uses his position to try to get nudes out of girls.
McElroys are furious, Ben Pack and Matt Kessler (from Giant bomb (well, pack is, Kessler interned there - so did Robinson)) have cut ties with him on their poddo and he's now been suspended pending Investigation from Polygon. Seems there's real merit to allegations.

Can't say I'm surprised. McElroys seem like genuinely good people, though, hope they don't catch too much flack for this.

They've been pretty swift at cutting ties there too and tweeting the right things. Well, griffin has put his twitter in lockdown this weekend

Cheers Reg. And seems McElroys and others around this are swiftly removing themselves from the situation
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...

Channel ad at the start deserves its own pod breakdown.

History of Japan poddo is a good one this week with a brief history of fascism explaining its birth from romanticism and surprisingly close ties to socialism.

Also there's a medical podcast Weekly Infusion which is often shit but sometimes not and last week they had a guest with mirror touch synaesthesia where they experience pain/pleasure/emotions of people they're looking at as a cognitive response.

Rinsed through this today and could only picture my favourite Asterix characters getting ripped apart. Thx Dan.

  • Nae worries.

There's the first episode that went up on Tuesday, and then it'll be twice a week from now on.
  • Been pouring more and more of my free time into podcasts recently.

    Regulars:

    Sam Harris Waking Up
Very Bad Wizards (philosophy/psychology guys chatting about all sorts)
The Weekly Planet (film and geeky stuff)
    Adam Buxton Podcast
    Kermode & Mayo

Also fairly regularly go back and re-listen to old Adam and Joe xfm/BBC stuff.

That's like 6-7 hours per week right there!

When I'm working I probably get about 8 hours a week with the commute, then maybe a couple of hours at the weekend when doing chores. I run out sometimes which is very annoying if I've still got some commuting to do. I need to find a couple more.

Oh big fan, but he's not at all new to me.

Read every book (apart from the meditation one), pretty much every podcast and seen pretty much everything on YouTube over the years.

Think the podcasts are easily the best stuff though. I've even chipped in on patreon!

  • It's just he's one of the four horsemen of new atheism, his views on morality are interesting, but also largely in line with Matt dilahunty, of atheist experience fame.

I realise there's a big difference in presentation and a lot of the time tone, but still strange.

  • Ah that guy. My objections to him had nothing to do with the subject matter at all, it was more about is behaviour.

Not super familiar with him in fairness and I may have him completely wrong, but after an hour or so Youtubing it seemed like his whole shtick was bullying and mocking vulnerable people as a means to self promotion.

I didn't like what I saw of him.

  • Sam Harris appears to be one of the few that actually sees sense in the world. I think he's brilliant. His ideas on consciousness and free will blew my mind when I first heard them. Also, his thoughts on the future of AI are genuinely frightening.
  • Sam Harris is a self publicising shill and an intellectual fraud. He seems to be making a good living from fooling idiots on the internet, but has zero credibility in the serious academic world. Word to the wise, stone, be very skeptical.

I'm still dubious of harris, but I'm willing to give him another go and see if I've been to harsh in my judgement of him.

Edit: I hadn't refreshed so didnt see gonzo's post. Glad to see I'm not alone in being skeptical of him.
  • His AI stuff is particularly jokes. He really is a shameless, cynical hack.
  • Harris has the same problem Rubin has - they've both managed to carve a niche in the "classic liberal" spot by being openly out against both the alt-right and the "regressive left".

Except, they're so angry at the left that they both end up as nodding, smiling shills for any contrarian that comes on, because it's all about "having that debate".

Rubin is worse because he's an idiot who thinks he's actually a worthwhile political thinker - he just looked smart next to The Young Turks. Harris has some brains, but he's often way off base and pretentious and dismissive about contrary opinions while he simultaneously opines how open-minded he is compared to the left.

Howdy, Stranger!
