Instead, Capcom took a careful look at Monster Hunter's design and cut all the fat while leaving the series trademark dense gameplay completely intact. All the changes, from the broad, sweeping ones to the granular alterations, only serve to improve an already winning formula. The next generation of Monster Hunter has finally begun, and, with Monster Hunter World, it's off to an incredibly good start.

Any issues melt away as you leap whooping from your seat, punching the air after you slay a giant beast while on your last sliver of health. The truth of Monster Hunter - and arguably its greatest strength - is that you're never truly its master, and that every player, be they novice or veteran, is always learning something new. This has always been a superlative series; with the release of World, it's only become easier to see that's an undoubtable truth.

GameSpot - 8.0Ever since the title was first announced last year, it was clear that Capcom was gunning for something grander than Monster Hunter Generations. It has succeeded, and this is likely the biggest and best that the franchise has ever been. It's not just the comparative depth of the narrative; it also boasts almost seamless integration between combat systems that were previously incomprehensible for amateurs. The Monster Hunter formula has definitely honed its claws, and all the above factors play their part in making Monster Hunter World a meaningful evolution for the series at large.

Best tutorial is teaming up with someone who knows their stuff. Our own Kilted moose gave me about 4 hours of training on Tri and after that I've gone to town

Looks like there is a far bit of hand holding in this one, including an AI (not the stupid cat) that travels around with you at the start.

I suspect all of us are going to need that to see the new mechanics they've added.

I don’t think it’ll tutorialise that much. There’s will be some early handholding but MoHans have always been relatively impenetrable.

Grab some friends, learn the grind. 4-player PSP hunts are some of my strongest gaming memories. There’s nothing like it, but understanding the various systems will never be easy.

I think the AI is more for teaching the environment, things to capture in nets, etc, and also notes about fighting.

Also it looks like this is not as complicated as previous ones, armour skills and decorations are much simplified - so might not be as hard to get into as the others.

Monsters will still need killing multiple times though.

The ability to break down a weapon back into raw materials and use them for other weapons will cut down on the grinding massively for those that makes lots of weapons. I've always been too lazy to farm weapons and armour so this will help people like me.

I bought this on WiiU and never played it, so I see no reason why I don't buy it on PS4 to not play it too.

Sounds all very good, I'll have a look at that Gajin Hunter video as I like him, no real point in reading any actual reviews, I know I'll like it.

I'm just hoping B gets it delivered early, so I can go from gym to his work to ps4 tomorrow.

For the people that are thinking of holding off for a while, I'll probably be still playing in a year time, and will always be up for some mp.

Jealous of all you people living in a future where this game is released already.

I've been playing all day, and while there is a lot of initial hand-holding (to be expected), now that its opened up its just glorious!

The addition of Bounties is a godsend, and cuts out (almost) all those annoying 'Collect X Quests'.

There are so many other great additions i won't spoil.
