After the best games ever thing, if RE4 doesn't win this then something very strange has happened.
You didn't give anything different according to position. A game can get mentioned on everyone's list (say at number 10) but still be nowhere near the top if another gets quite a few GOTG votes.
I'm just kidding, although it was at the top of quite a few lists - at least those who gave an order.

I know it tears you up that I couldn't do points, but I really couldn't. ;)
  • So it's probably going to be something like this:

    1. Fire Emblem (GBA)
    2. Astro Boy (GBA)
    3. Ninja Gaiden (XB)
    4. Super Monkey Ball (GC)
    5. Okami (PS2)
    6. Disgaea (PS2)
    7. Halo CE (XB)
    8. PES (XB)
    9. Advance Wars (GBA)
    10. Stranger's Wrath (XB)

Not quites: Ikaruga (would probably be in if I was just better at it), Resi Remake and Resi 4, Prince of Persia, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Tactics Ogre.
  • Is Disgea a turn based strategy game, or a turn based tactical RPG? I'm struggling to define the genres there...basically, is it turn based with movement squares like Shining Force, or more of a wait your turn and select your move like Final Fantasy kind of thing?
  • I forgot about Advance Wars, Kuru Kuru Kururin and Sands of Time.

Stranger's Wrath and Okami were also highly thought of, although I never actually played mine.

  • Fuck, so many great games. Forgot about Rez and Ikaruga.

    Yes.
put the years in so it's clear what PC games are allowed.

    Yep, will do.

Ooh, may not be an issue, but ruling on half life 2? Played it on Xbox first.

It's in. It was on Oldbox plus original release on PC was just just before the 7th gen started. So it's 6th gen.

It's a grid type thing, like Shining Force, but with mad depth and endless (optional) grinding possibilities.

I actually played it on the DS, which probably isn't even a very good version, but all the important stuff was there.

Not a huge fan but Quake III Arena and the GC Res Evil games would feature I guess.

Have a fondness for Dreamcast Daytona 2001 and WarioWare Inc on GC.

Such a strong era. Fighter fans had it large then too - SF3 3rd strike, SF2 Anniversary and SFA Anthology were that gen. Soul Calibur and Capcom vs SNK too.

Is Worms Armageddon the same era on PC? Not sure.
Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.
  • Ah, Warioware - there's one I forgot.

Ooh, Ninja Gaiden and Worms are strong contenders.
  • Fuck, something will have to give way for Capcom Vs SNK 2. Or maybe even Guilty Gear X2.

Pikmin, Viewtiful Joe, Metroid Prime, Katamari, Mashed, Windwaker - going to be hard to pick 10.

That era saw World of Warcraft, Lego Star Wars and Guitar Hero kick off.

I had it on PS2, but once I realised it had no towns and wandering around I shelved it. Towns and characters to talk to/find stuff for hat's the last thing I look for in that sort of game these days, so I might be ready to give it another go. A Vita version appears semi-regularly in sales. I don't want to overdo the genre with a new Fire Emblem on the horizon, and Frozen Synapse currently on the go. Decisions....

    I'm onto it.

Just kidding. It's the next one after this. I'll give this one a month or two to run.

  • Actually Worms World Party was one I played a lot around then. Probably wouldn't quite make the list, though.
  • 1. Halo: CE (Xbox)
    2. GTA: Vice City (Xbox)
    3. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (Xbox)

Can we stop with the Metropolitan

God, I've got a crap memory, so that era for me was all Dreamcast and Gamecube.

    So, it's gonna be:

    1. Shenmue
    2. Virtua Tennis 2
    3. Soul Calibur
    4. METROPOLIS Street Racer
    5. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
    6. Metroid Prime
    7. Resident Evil 4
    8. Super Monkey Ball
    9. Animal Crossing
    10. Zelda: Wind Waker

Trying to put those into some kind of order is tricky, but would probably be:

    1. Metroid Prime (amazing re-imaging of my favourite SNES game)
    2. Resident Evil 4 (as has already been discussed many times on this forum)
    3. Zelda: Wind Waker (loved it from the first screen shot, even when loads of people complained about the cel shaded artwork)
    4. Shenmue (game I didn't want to end, even the going to work moving boxes around was strangely compelling)
    5. Metropolis Street Racer (great cars, great driving, great settings)
    6. Super Monkey Ball (best multiplayer family game ever = Monkey Target)
    7. Animal Crossing (first game the whole family played. Remember my GF at the time who worked at a school pretty much played this all summer long when she was off)
    8. Virtua Tennis 2 (the best tennis game just got a bit better, love for the mini games)
    9. Soul Calibur (Cervantes, say no more)
    10. Resident Evil: Code Veronica (not sure really, but at the time I loved it, but maybe it should be swapped out for Crazy Taxi)

Special mentions to: Mario Sunshine (almost, but not quite), Crazy Taxi (great in small does), Ikaruga (for kicking my ass), Rogue Leader (can't remember which one, but was the best console star wars until KOTOR turned up).

Jet Set Fucking Radio (original and Future), Vice City. This is gonna be tough.
  • 1- Rez [Dreamcast]
Music by Ken Ishii with a game attached.

    2- GTA San Andreas [PS2]
    Expansive world.

    3- Far Cry (2004) [PC]
Multiple ways to succeed, try one approach - if it didn't work try another

    4- Ico [PS2]
    Lovely atmosphere

5- Medal Of Honor Allied Assault (2002) [PC]
Someones playing, and enjoying, my copy of this at the mo.

    6- Civilization IV (2005) [PC]
So, so (just one more turn) addictive. Had to uninstall it in the end and promised myself I'd never play another Civilisation game.

    7- Jet Set Radio [Dreamcast]

    8- Re-Volt [Dreamcast]

    9- Soul Caliber [Dreamcast]

Just seen the proposed dates (was prepping this list before then). So these would have made it if basing the time of the generation as being from the launch of the deamcast in Japan. Still maybe they'll re-appear if a prequel generation thread appears:

1- Aliens Vs Predator (April 1999) [PC]

    8- System Shock 2 (Aug 1999) [PC]

Howdy, Stranger!
