I mean, this is just astounding. He told the Sean O’Rourke show that Labour MPs who were saying the deal would erode workers rights were wrong because it would be up to parliament to confirm anything set out in the political declaration in the next set of negotiations for a trade deal. If parliament wanted to reduce workers’ rights, then “more fool them”, he said.

We can all then look forward to a Tory majority at the GE and the end of the union.
Happy Friday, everyone.

I think the Letwin amendment is likely to pass, in which case the vote on the deal is postponed until after extension is secured https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201920/cmagenda/OP191019.pdf

Do you think this was the best that could have been made given the options? I know many are not happy (and I understand why) but I think any agreement was going to be poor unless all you wanted was an EU exit. The EU were only going to shift so much.
It’s a dreadful arrangement that no one should be proud ofArmitage_Shankburn wrote:I think this deal is a fucking coup from BJ's point of view. Of course, he is the beneficiary of fuck ups, 2017, and the forbearance of the EU. But most of the credit should go to the incredible hard work of literally thousands of civil servants, I don't even want to know how many of them burned out, had breakdowns, or what. I suspect the FCO must bear a lot of the credit. And maybe our intelligence services.RedDave2 wrote:Do you think this was the best that could have been made given the options? Yeah, a bad Bexit deal is one thing. Five years of Johnson, Gove, Patel, Rees-Mogg etc doing whatever they want will cause untold damage, and I can only see this giving them a boost in an election. Anyone outside of that far-right/ultra-neoliberal bubble should try to stop that at any cost.JMW wrote:The main problem is Johnson sweeping to a GE victory because this is perceived as some sort of ‘success’.
